It appeared I was the only person on site, there were no staff or other guests around, and the room door couldn’t be bolted or securely locked from the inside. The fire exit door also looked quite flimsy, which made me feel uneasy as a solo female traveller. The room itself was clean but more worn and scuffed than shown in the photos. With a few safety improvements and more visible on-site presence, it could be a nice place to stay, but unfortunately it just didn’t feel right for me on this occasion. It was a city break with my two children and we really enjoyed the experience. The CoalShed has real character and was a great place to hang out with my kids and use as a base to explore all the great stuff on offer in Bristol. We loved the games facilities and the 'honesty bar', which is a great idea and was definitely welcome in the evening. The communal area is great for socialising with the other guests as well. The rooms were comfy and really well laid out, there was everything we needed. The local area is hip and Bristol city center is all walkable, although we got an Uber. We found this space easy and convenient for our stay in Bedminster. Our room, on the ground floor shared space, was comfortable; felt quiet, private and secure. Alongside a small fridge, Coal Shed provide a range of tea and coffee options in the room with crockery and cutlery to hand. A shared kitchen was kept clean and well stocked with equipment and oil for cooking, if you decide to stay in. We stayed over a weekend, let ourselves in and never met a member of staff but the notes were welcoming.
