While Benloch itself is a small, rural locality, the best area to stay for most visitors looking to explore the region is generally around Lancefield or Romsey, which are the closest towns offering a range of accommodation and amenities.

Lancefield is a good choice for those seeking a tranquil country escape with easy access to local produce and wineries. The main street, High Street, has a few local shops, cafes, and the historic Lancefield Hotel. It's an excellent base for couples looking to visit nearby vineyards and enjoy scenic drives through the Macedon Ranges.

Romsey offers a slightly larger town experience with more dining options and local services, while still maintaining a relaxed country feel. It's ideally situated for families, with parks and open spaces, and provides convenient access to attractions like the nearby Hanging Rock.

The best time to go to Benloch is during the warmer months, specifically from late spring (November) through early autumn (April), to fully enjoy the outdoor activities and natural beauty of the region.

During these months, the weather is generally pleasant, with warmer temperatures and less rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the Benloch State Forest, taking scenic drives, or enjoying the local vineyards. January and February are typically the hottest months, superb for those who enjoy swimming in nearby lakes or rivers.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will find November and December particularly appealing, as the spring wildflowers are in bloom, and the vineyards are lush. The slightly cooler temperatures at the start of summer offer comfortable conditions for hiking or cycling through the picturesque countryside.

For families, the school holiday periods in December and January are a popular choice. The longer daylight hours mean more time for outdoor adventures, and many local attractions are in full swing.
