The best area to stay in Belunza is the Old Town, known locally as "Alde Zaharra," which is the historic heart of the city.

This neighbourhood is characterised by its narrow, pedestrian-friendly streets, traditional Basque architecture, and a lively option. The central Plaza Nueva, a grand arcaded square, is a focal point, surrounded by tapas bars and shops. The Old Town is also home to the impressive Santiago Cathedral and the Mercado de la Ribera, one of Europe's largest covered markets, located along the river.

Couples looking for a romantic and culturally rich experience will find the Old Town ideal. You can spend your days exploring ancient churches, browsing artisan shops, and enjoying long meals at traditional restaurants. The evening brings a special charm, with the squares and streets filling with people enjoying the local cuisine and drinks.

Solo travellers will also appreciate the Old Town for its accessibility and social opportunities. It's easy to meet locals and other travellers in the numerous pintxos bars, and the compact nature of the area means everything is within walking distance.

The best time to go to Belunza is during the late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September to October).

These periods offer pleasant weather, with comfortable temperatures that are ideal for exploring the region's natural beauty and towns. You'll generally find fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months, allowing for a more relaxed experience at popular attractions and restaurants. The countryside is particularly inviting during these times, either bursting with spring blooms or displaying rich autumnal colours.

For those keen on outdoor activities like hiking or cycling, these shoulder seasons provide the great climate without the intense heat of mid-summer or the cooler, wetter conditions of winter. You can comfortably enjoy the coastal paths or venture into the inland hills.

If your primary interest is experiencing local festivals and the full warmth of the Basque summer, July and August are also excellent choices, though you should anticipate more visitors and potentially higher prices.
