The best area to stay in Belcastro is the historic hill town itself, particularly around the Castello di Belcastro.

This ancient part of Belcastro is perched atop a hill, offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside and the Ionian Sea. The town's narrow, winding cobblestone streets lead to the impressive Norman castle, which is the centrepiece of the area. You'll find a few local trattorias and cafes dotted amongst the historic buildings. It's a place where history is truly alive, with every corner telling a story.

Couples looking for a romantic and authentic Italian experience will find this area particularly appealing. Staying within the historic centre means waking up to panoramic views and enjoying peaceful evenings under the stars. It's great for leisurely strolls, discovering hidden courtyards, and savouring traditional Calabrian cuisine in an intimate setting.

For travellers seeking a more relaxed pace and easy access to the coast, the area just below the hill town, closer to the sea, offers a different appeal. While not as historic, it provides more modern conveniences and is a good base for exploring the nearby beaches and coastal towns.

The best time to go to Belcastro is during the shoulder seasons of May, June, September, and early October.

These months offer pleasant weather, with warm temperatures great for exploring the historic town and surrounding nature without the intense heat and larger crowds of the peak summer months. You'll find it comfortable for walking and outdoor activities.

For couples looking for a relaxed getaway, late May or early June is ideal. The flora is in full bloom, making for picturesque walks around the castle and through the olive groves. You'll find a peaceful atmosphere great for enjoying local cuisine and the quiet charm of the town.

Families travelling with children might prefer early September. The sea is still warm enough for swimming at nearby beaches, and the main tourist rush has subsided, meaning more space and less waiting at local attractions.
