"The pool area was very spacious. Free coffee and ice cream in lobby was a bonus! Room was clean and well equipped. The staff was pleasant when confronted but did not initiate friendliness. Location is perfectly situated downtown. A area shuttle from hotel to downtown for walking impaired would have been helpful but was not available."

"Hotel was full, so I understand, but the toilet would not flush. Was not comped one day for the toilet, literally had the plunger in my bathroom, to no avail. would have been nice to be comped at least one day?"

" On the plus side: The hotel in centrally located. It is very close to downtown as well as many shops and restaurants. There is a free breakfast that was good. On the negative side: The hotel is in desperate need of an upgrade. The rooms were clean . But the furniture is very dated. Also, there was a fishy sort of odor in the room. I went across to Publix and bought a room deodorizer to help offset the smell. It is fine for a short stay. But, it could be improved. "

"We decided to stay at the Golden Host Resort based on the many, many 5 star reviews and were a bit disappointed. Our room was very clean and the bed was Super Comfortable. We asked for an extra blanket and pillow and this was provided instantly. We didn’t use the pool, but it looked refreshing with a nice grassy area surrounding it and plenty of chaise lounges to relax. With that said, reviews talked about this hotel’s retro vibe. Other than the blue retro mini fridge and microwave, the room and setting were average, ordinary, but sufficient. If you’re looking for a clean simple place to stay, the Golden Host hotel is great. If you’re seeking a unique, unusual, retro vibe, you might be disappointed. "

"The hotel is a happening place with both lobby and poolside entertainment. It's located downtown near all the best restaraunts. The valet parking is also convenient. My only "complaint", which the hotel is aware of, is that the bed headrests are showing serious wear and tear, so much so that there is a sign on them saying, while clean, they know they should be replaced. Hopefully, that sign won't be there a year from now."

"The property is centrally located for a visit to Sarasota. We had the junior suite which was spacious and comfortable. The pool and fitness center are very nice. The facility is definitely outdated and nothing “special”, although they try to dress it up with colorful decor. The maid service was subpar, they never came on day one and didn’t come until late afternoon day 2. Neither day did we receive new towels. Remaining staff were all very friendly. It wasn’t a bad stay, but we will likely try a different hotel next time simply because we know there are better in the area. "
