Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best area to stay in Ballons?

The best area to stay in Ballons for a truly memorable experience is the charming village of Saint-Flour.

Saint-Flour is a mediaeval walled city perched dramatically on a volcanic plug, offering panoramic views of the surrounding Auvergne landscape. The upper town, known as the "Ville Haute," is home to the impressive Saint-Flour Cathedral and a labyrinth of narrow, cobbled streets filled with artisan shops and traditional restaurants. The lower town, or "Ville Basse," provides access to the main roads. It's a place where history meets stunning natural beauty.

For couples seeking a romantic and comfortable escape, staying within the Ville Haute of Saint-Flour is an excellent choice. You'll find boutique hotels tucked away in historic buildings, offering a tranquil base to explore the cathedral, walk the ancient ramparts, and enjoy intimate dinners with local specialities. The evenings here are particularly peaceful, superb for a relaxed stroll.

Families also find Saint-Flour appealing due to its mix of historical exploration and accessibility to outdoor activities. From the Ville Haute, it's easy to access hiking and cycling trails in the nearby regional park.
