4.0 star property
Mylopotamos
8.6 out of 10, Excellent, (297 reviews)
"Very good and family friendly experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, overall an excellent stay. The only complaint would be that dinner at 2 of the 4 restaurants felt a little like a conveyor belt where the priority seemed to be getting us fed and out as quickly as possible rather than having us enjoy the dining experience. With that said the experience at the other 2 restaurants was excellent."

Agapi Beach Resort - Premium All Inclusive

Agapi Beach Resort - Premium All Inclusive

8/10 Good
"The main advantage is that the hotel sits right next to a spacious beach with plenty of sunbeds. The food quality was excellent, but it lacked variety. We were there for over a week and found that our meal choices were similar, especially for breakfast. The dining hosts were friendly, but on some days the same or different hosts lacked warmth and didn't feel welcoming. The waiting staff were amazing and very friendly, although one gentleman was quite rude when we chose a certain spot to sit and pointed us to other available tables (without considering that it was easier for us to be seated in a quiet spot with fewer distractions for our daughter). Our room had air conditioning, but it was consistently set to a fan setting and didn't cool the room. When we questioned this at reception, they said they had changed the settings so it wouldn't cool in all guest rooms given the time of year (so all settings for every guest had to be the same and not separate, which is strange, as everyone should be able to adjust their A/C individually as they find suitable for them). The reception staff then said they would change the settings back after back-and-forth calls with the Director. For all-inclusive, note that top-brand drinks are not included as "all-inclusive" drinks, which was very disappointing. A special shout-out to the security lady on the beach who was so friendly and welcoming every time we saw her. She was so accommodating, and made the effort to say hello to our daughter."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Axos?
The best area to stay in Axos is within the village itself, particularly around the central square and the main road that runs through it.

Axos is a small, traditional Cretan mountain village. The heart of the village is its charming central square, often bustling with locals and visitors enjoying coffee or a meal. The main road, which is relatively short, connects various parts of the village, leading to the Byzantine church of Agia Paraskevi and offering pathways to explore the quieter, residential lanes.

Couples looking for a tranquil escape will find the village centre ideal. It offers easy access to local tavernas serving authentic Cretan cuisine and small shops selling local products like honey and olive oil. The relaxed pace of life here is superb for unwinding, and you can enjoy leisurely strolls through the olive groves surrounding the village.

For solo travellers interested in local culture and outdoor activities, staying in Axos village provides a great base. You're close to hiking trails that wind through the Psiloritis mountains, and the village itself offers opportunities to observe traditional Cretan life.
When is the best time to go to Axos?
The best time to visit Axos, Crete, is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.

During spring, the weather is pleasantly warm, and the Cretan landscape is lush and green, with wildflowers in bloom. It's an excellent time for hiking and exploring the natural beauty surrounding Axos, such as the nearby Ideon Cave or the scenic routes through the Psiloritis mountains. Couples or those seeking an active holiday will find the conditions ideal for outdoor activities without the intense summer heat.

Autumn also offers agreeable temperatures, making it suitable for exploring the village and its historical sites, like the Byzantine churches. The sea is still warm enough for swimming until late October for those who don't mind a short drive to the coast.
