The best area to stay in Arroz is the Old Town district, especially for those seeking a blend of history, convenience, and local flavour.

Old Town Arroz is the historic heart of the city, characterised by its well-preserved Spanish historic architecture and cobblestone streets. It's a very walkable area, with the central plaza, Plaza de Arroz, serving as a focal point. You'll find a variety of independent shops, art galleries, and restaurants concentrated along Main Street and its intersecting lanes.

Couples will find Old Town particularly appealing for its romantic setting. The evening strolls through illuminated streets, stopping at a charming tapas bar or a restaurant with outdoor seating, offer a delightful experience. Many boutique hotels in this area are housed in historic buildings, offering unique character and personalised service, often with courtyards and terraces.

For solo travellers, Old Town provides an excellent base for exploration. Its central location means easy access to key attractions like the Arroz Mission and the Presidio State Historic Park. The area is also well-connected by public transport, making it simple to venture out to other parts of the city or to nearby natural attractions.

The best time to go to Arroz is during the shoulder seasons of spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October) or the summer months (June to August) for the warmest weather.

For those looking for pleasant weather without the peak summer crowds, spring and autumn offer mild temperatures superb for exploring the outdoors. You'll find the vineyards are particularly picturesque during these times, either bursting with new growth or displaying rich seasonal colours.
