5/5 - Excellent
This area was very convenient. Close to the airport, car rentals, Walmart, food, shopping. Hotels etc. It’s busy. Lots of traffic but overall - I was happy to stay in Alajuela over downtown San Jose. I recommend this area.

I’m disappointed that I had to pay extra!
Nothing is open late! We came in on a later flight (11pm) expecting to be able to grab a later meal and weren’t able to eat anything other than the snacks we had on hand.
Stayed one night when we arrived from the airport. Suited our needs. Host was nice and helpful. Helped us get a taxi. Wouldn’t go out after dark. The town seems a bit scetchy at night. Busy town in day time. Driving here is a bit crazy!
Alajuela is a lovely area with a small town, local feel. Walkable with restaurants, shopping and some museums, it's close to the airport without the "industrial" or "airport hotel" setting.
A place to stay on the way or to the airport.
