"Good location next to the Waverly Train Station"
Location good. Room very basic . Bathroom really old but always had hot water. Not much ventilation . No room safes. Wifi good. Think they are in the process of renovating which is needed.

"A pub with 4 rooms to rent."
Fiddler's Elbow is not a hotel in the normal sense of the word-- it is an old pub with 4 rooms upstairs. Our room was obviously modernized recently, but some "quaint" features remain. No AC, but the windows do open. No elevator, so get used to stairs. Also, you're upstairs from a pub that is famous for live music, so expect some noise. Given all that, we had a great time and would stay here again.

"Friendly staff, great location"
Used Edinburgh as our base for attending the Open Golf. Very central to shopping, Jazz Festival, restaurants and bars. Used tram for transfers between Hotel and airport. Hotel very good, excellent staff and food.

"Nice hotel close to public transport"
Steps to reception but if you ring bell staff will rush to assist with luggage. Lifts to other floors. Rooms clean but a bit small. Adequate buffet breakfast in dining room. Morning we departed breakfast delivered to our room as requested 0345 hours. We walked across road to the airport bus only 20-30 minutes travel to airport. Cheaper than taxi if 4 or less in your group.

"Nice hotel hiding a gem of a restaurant"
The hotel is located on a rather steep hill (depending on your angle of approach!) but it is worth the stay. The room was a nice size, very clean and the bed was VERY comfortable. The staff were friendly and happy to answer any questions. However, the absolute star of the Hotel is their restaurant (MPs Bistro) and its Chef. We had our dinner there the first evening. It was very quiet, but the staff were brilliant and the food was amazing and reasonably priced!! We also decided to have breakfast in our room the following morning - needless to say, it was the same high quality, arriving at the room piping hot. We absolutely loved our stay :)

"Super Modern and Ideal Location"
This is a very modern hotel centrally situated only 5 minutes walk from Waverley Rail Station, and right next to Cafe Royal, the best bar in the city - which is saying something. Staff very friendly. Rooms very well appointed, comfortable beds. But no adjustable heating nor a phone in the room, so unable to call reception. Didn't try the breakfast as we preferred to try somewhere outwith ourselves after a morning walk.

"Lovely boutique hotel, ideal location."
Lovely hotel in central location, situated in Edinburgh's new town across from the Omni Centre, Edinburgh Playhouse and the bus station. The tram terminus is just outside the hotel however this was quiet and we were not disturbed by the noise despite having a room located at the front of the hotel. This hotel proved very good value for money considering how central it was and the décor is lovely and modern. I managed to easily book into the hotel car park by phoning ahead however at peak times I would suggest booking early to avoid disappointment. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and would use this hotel again.

"Basic ... but O.K."
Stayed for 5 nights in August. Now that I have had time to think about it - James Craig was o.k. We had not stayed in this type of accommodation before, so it was a bit of a learning curve. The location was great but, like other contributor's comments, was hard to find. We directed many people during our stay. If you choose to stay in a hostel then there are things you need to supply - luckily there was toilet paper, but nothing else in the bathroom. There was a fridge, and a few bits of cutlery and crockery, but nothing to wash or dry with - so go prepared. There are washing machines and driers (lots of $$$) but unfortunately they were out of order, and not fixed during our stay. There IS a laundromat down Leith St. a good 15 mins walk. The very young staff work in very cramped conditions and do an o.k. job - if one isn't friendly, just go back later ...
