"Great staff, great location"
This hotel is in an ideal location if you are visiting edinburgh for the fringe festival and/or sight seeing adventures. It is a two minute walk to the royal mile 'action' but still located so that you are not over run with crowds as soon as you walk out the door. The staff are friendly and more than obliging. Would definitely stay there again!!! (If you book this hotel do be mindful that this is a three star hotel. You will get five star friendliness and helpfulness from the staff, cleanliness standards etc but not restuarants, bars, gymnasiums etc. )

"SHORT STAY WHILE COMMONWEALTH GAMES WAS ON"
WE STAYED IN EDINBURGH BECAUSE GLASGOW WAS CHARGING EXTORTIONATE AMOUNTS AND A RETURN TRAIN TICKET WAS ONLY £12.60. THIS HOTEL IS IN THE CENTRE OF THE OLD HISTORIC SIDE OF THE CITY, 5 MINUTES WALK FROM THE TRAIN STATION. THE ROOMS ARE CLEAN, MODERN AND SPACIOUS. THE STAR OF THE SHOW IS THE RESTAURANT AND COCKTAIL BAR WHERE THE FOOD IS EXCELLENT AND THE STAFF HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY. I RECOMMEND THE POTATO AND LEEK SOUP WHICH WAS GORGEOUS!!!!

"Highly recommended."
We were only staying at the Dunstane for one night, but wished we were staying longer. The room was beautifully furnished and comfortable, and the proximity to Haymarket train station made it so easy for us to get into Edinburgh. Even though the weather was torrential, we still loved our weekend. We'll definitely be booking the Dunstane again, and for more than one night next time!

"Location, location, location..."
The Fraser has an excellent location, near St Gilles Church in the Royal Mile. Tired? Return to the hotel, take a nap and return to the action. Good bed, free tea and coffee carafe, refrigerador, microwave, iron, etc. Helpful and nice personal. Walking distance to the train station.

"Awesome"
If you want a hotel just like you would find in the U.S. - keep looking. If you want something totally unlike a typical hotel, book it. Its in Old Town. Its a very old building, but thoroughly modern inside, including the plumbing. Its a little quirky and different. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Restaurant on site reasonable/comparable to surrounding restaurants. The full Scottish Breakfast - complete with haggis is a good deal. When we got there, the courtyard was packed with a crowd to watch the World Cup on the big outdoor screen and drink. I thought, "oh, no, the noise...". Didn't hear a peep inside. Very quiet. But with foot-thick stone walls...I guess they made buildings quiet enough to withstand local battles, rebellions, etc.

"Wonderfully comfortable!"
Stayed here during the fringe festival - a wonderfully comfortable bed to head back to after a day of walking & shows! Slightly tucked away from the hustle and bustle but nevertheless very well located 10 min walk from the main hub. Fabulous breakfast buffet and a la carte - delicious Scottish full breakfast!

"Perfect Location. Wonderful Staff. Great Room."
We just had a fantastic week at The Scotsman during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and tattoo. It is located 1/2 block from the Royal Mile, equally between the castle and the palace in Old Town. The staff is absolutely first rate- Ivor, the concierge and general greeter, is a delight and incredibly helpful. The connected restaurant is convenient and very, very good. The rooms are spacious, the beds and appointments wonderful and the bathrooms huge and modern. We LOVED our stay. We recommend The Scotsman to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

"Really Pleasant Surprise"
Had read some bad reviews for this accommodation but the price was good so booked anyway. Arrived early but really nice staff let us into the gated, covered car park. Room was spotless, and shared kitchen was well equipped and quite clean. We were in Edinburgh for the festival and location was good (about 20 mins walk to the main festival venues). Would definitely use this accommodation again.
