"Die Einrichtung des Hotels war insgesamt in Ordnung, alles sauber und zweckmäßig. Besonders positiv hervorzuheben ist das sehr gute Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Man sollte jedoch beachten, dass die Kommunikation größtenteils über die App läuft, da nicht immer englischsprachiges Personal vor Ort ist. Für Reisende, die damit kein Problem haben, ist es ein wirklich empfehlenswertes Hotel."

"Management (?owner/operater) was rude and despite familiarity with 'translator' app a terrible communicator. Saving a 1* teview was the laundry and available (out of room) fridge. Perhaps it was a bad weekend...but smoking while talking at the front desk and 'cold-shoulder' vibes were annoying even considering cross-cultural differences! C'est la vie...but 'Choose your own Adventure' with this one!""

Holiday Inn Express Huangshan Mountain South Gate By Ihg

Holiday Inn Express Huangshan Mountain South Gate By Ihg

8/10 Good
"The room was very clean, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Overall, the service was good, and the breakfast tasted quite good as well. However, there was one issue that left me somewhat disappointed. After having breakfast one morning, I developed diarrhea. Although I cannot say for certain that it was caused by the breakfast, I did not eat anything unusual that day other than the breakfast, so I was concerned that it might have been related to the food, especially the desserts, which may not have been fresh or properly stored. I reported the situation to the front desk and hoped that they would take my concern seriously and at least express some concern. Unfortunately, instead of apologizing or showing concern, the staff repeatedly suggested that I might have eaten something cold and that this was the reason I became sick. I found this response rather disappointing. I am not trying to unfairly blame the hotel. I simply hope that the hotel will take guests’ concerns seriously, especially when they involve food safety. Even if the exact cause cannot be determined, I believe it would be appropriate to show concern, offer an apology, and carefully check the quality, freshness, and storage of the breakfast items. I hope the hotel will strengthen its management of breakfast foods, especially desserts, to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Xidi?
The best area to stay in Xidi is within the historic village itself, particularly near the main entrance or along the central thoroughfares.

This area is the heart of Xidi's UNESCO World Heritage site, characterised by its well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty architecture, narrow cobblestone lanes, and serene courtyards. The village is compact and easily explored on foot, with landmarks like the Xidi Archway at the entrance and the Ancestral Temple of the Hu Family providing focal points.

Couples looking for a romantic and tranquil escape will find the guesthouses and boutique hotels within the historic village perfect. Staying here offers the opportunity to experience the village's quiet evenings and early mornings, away from the daytime crowds, and enjoy traditional Anhui architecture up close. Many accommodations are converted historic homes, offering a unique stay.

For solo travellers interested in history and photography, staying centrally means you're always just steps away from picturesque scenes and cultural insights.
When is the best time to go to Xidi?
The best time to visit Xidi is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months.

Spring in Xidi offers mild temperatures and the landscape is lush and green, making it ideal for exploring the ancient village on foot. You'll find fewer crowds compared to the peak summer season, allowing for a more peaceful experience as you wander through the narrow alleyways and admire the traditional Hui-style architecture. This season is particularly pleasant for couples seeking a tranquil getaway.

Autumn also provides comfortable weather with clear skies and pleasant temperatures, great for sightseeing and photography. The surrounding countryside often displays beautiful autumn colours, adding to the scenic beauty of the ancient village.
