This much awarded eco home, designed and built by University of Victoria architectural students, went on display in Wellington, then it was shipped to Washington to compete in an international competition where it won first place in engineering, second for architecture and third place overall . Now this sassy solar home of the future has been permanently sited on Lightning Ridge overlooking the white sands of Waimarama Beach, a thirty minute scenic drive from Havelock North in Hawke’s Bay. The house has amazing indoor – outdoor flow with more than 100 metres of decks overlooking the beautiful surf beach, with sweeping views down to Cape Kidnappers and out to sea to Bare Island, the location is special, perfect for such a special house. Unfortunately the weather in Nov was a little variable so we couldn't quite make as much use of the outdoor facilities as we might have, but when the weather had a break the deck area was lovely. It was good to get away from the crowds in Havelock North and Napier. Waimarama is a great spot, a really nice beach community. We have wanted to stay at First Light for a while and finally had the opportunity to book. The property doesnt fail to impress, the views are amazing and the bach is modern cozy and unique. We spent four nights here and had a delightful stay. Four seasons in one day weather was no problem, with plenty to do inside and out. Definitely recommend.
