"Casa Mexicana" is a great place to relax while exploring the Riviera Maya! Between Tulum (20km) and Akumal (7km) and surrounded by the jungle, it is your cozy base, yet far away from crowds, and a 3 minutes drive to the pristine Xcacel Beach. The house is fully furnished, fresh and quiet, and you will enjoy its front roofed terrace with jungle view, hammock, table and chairs. The place is all yours (it is a second home). The house can sleep 5 persons \- "Grey room" has a queen size bed, A/C, fan, closet. \- "Yellow room" has 2 single beds + an extra mattress (on the floor), A/C, fan, closet. \- 1 bathroom with shower. \- fully furnished kitchen (fridge, oven, coffee machine, blender, toaster, pans and ustensiles) \- tv \- WIFI (good enough if you want to work remotely, digital nomads welcome!) \- air conditioned in each room. \- a large covered terrace. great for having breakfast with the birds singing :) \- fenced back yard Casa Mexicana is in Chan Chemuyil, a quiet, charming, colorful neighborhood. The development is surrounded by jungle, smells good and sounds good. It is within a walking distance from "downtown" Chemuyil which is cute and typical. There you will find a few restaurants, tortilla factory, tacos, bakery and small grocery stores, football and basketball court, church, etc. Chemuyil village is really authentic and friendly. Xcacel beach is also a 3 minutes drive away and is one of the most beautiful beaches, as a protected turtles sanctuary. Crystal clear water and a white sandy beach, make Playa Xcacel perfect for snorkeling, swimming and relaxing. In order to keep the place safe and protected for turtles, the entrance to the beach is allowed from 10am to 5pm (tue-sun) and there is a 97pesos (5usd) entrance fee (toilets and shower access). There are also other amazing beaches around (Tulum, Akumal, Paamul, Xpu-Ha,...). On your way back you can swim in the fresh water cenote (underground lake) 100 meters away from the house! Casa Mexicana is centrally located for visiting many amazing sites on a day trip: \- mayans ruins like Tulum and Coba, \- the Sian Kaan Biosphere, \- eco/adventure parks (Xcaret, Xplor, Xel-Ha), \- stunning beaches (Tulum, Akumal Bay, Xpu-ha, Soliman Bay...), \- nightlife in Playa del Carmen, \- amazing jungle cenotes, very typical in the area, \- hidden lagoons, \- monkey reserve, etc. If you plan to explore the Riviera Maya and do a lot of sightseeing, or have small children, renting a car at Cancun Airport could be your best option (you will find the main car rental companies at Cancun Airport). However, public transportation is easily available from Casa Mexicana. The "colectivos" (small public buses), go by readily between 6am and midnight, they are safe and cheap (around 1.5usd/pers). They will drop you off anywhere along the highway between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. There is a bus stop at the entrance of the village (5min walk). We spent a delightful six days here. We chose the location because we knew we wanted a quieter community than in Tulum and that we didn't want the all-inclusive hotel scene. We found four free cenotes within walking distance including one right across the street. It was a very short drive to the beach. And we appreciated the local restaurants just a mile away. The house was comfortable, clean and quiet. ##### David M. Best location in the community, jungle on two sides,tropical birds everywhere.Very quiet with good outdoor seating and a grill. Park right in front if you have a car. The view is amazing. Huge windows allow enjoying the lake even when it's cold outside. We stopped by the Lowes grocery on the way in (thanks to an excellent recommendation by the host). We enjoyed the view with coffee, grilled on the deck, and really relaxed for the first time in a long time. The kids loved the bunk beds upstairs!
