Southport is located at the mouth of the Cape Fear River, the intracoastal waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. The view from the waterfront is extraordinary. It has been the romantic setting for dozens of TV shows and movies including 'Safe Haven.'There are many great restaurants. Relax on one of the many bench swings down by the waterfront. The downtown area is one of a kind where the streets are lined with small unique shops. The huge sprawling oak trees border the avenues leading to striking historic homes. Southport is home to the N.C. 4th of July festival. ( book early). The Plantation is a beautiful coastal community in Southport which has its own Marina. 15+ miles of trails, nature and wildlife, restaurants and golf. Fishing for the kids and playgrounds. Condo a bit far from the entrances so plan for a drive if leaving the plantation for shopping or dining (other than the one restaurant at the marina). The only other negative was that we found the ad to be a little bit unclear when it stated the use of the beach club. It's important, we feel, to be upfront in the ad that parking is not included at the beach club, so you need to plan to pay to park and be sure parking is available. We didn't have a problem since the weather wasn't great. Also, bring your own chairs, etc. from the condo because there is nothing available to borrow from the beach club to take onto the beach. My daughter and I absolutely loved spending time out on the balcony overlooking the golf course, and the beach club access is a GAME CHANGER. Having access to bathrooms and an oceanside pool when you’re at the beach with children is ideal. Very accommodating and extremely good too work with. The condo was VERY clean and did not feel like a rental. The complex was friendly, quiet, and relaxing. The entire St James area feels like you're in a resort when your driving through. The instructions were spot on and helpful. Lots of food options within a 15-20min drive.
