"The apartments are nice but the hotel is located at the junction of two mountain rivers which are very noisy. The internet said that the hotel had 24hr reception but it is only open for limited hours and closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The hotel swimming pool was also closed for the first part of our visit. Probably all this was incorporated into the price we paid but the advertising didn't state it."

Top Montsegur Hotel Reviews

Premiere Classe Pamiers

8/10 Good

"First experience of this type of accommodation. Very inexpensive and convenient. Perfect for a cheap stopover. Very compact but has all you need great for the price. Was able to check in on machine which issues the door card. Secure parking. Supermarket and dining including McDonalds close by. Quieter than thought would be. Due a refurbishment as bit tatty but brilliant for the money"

Hôtel Pyrène

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel was very good and I enjoyed my stay. The only drawback is that it's about 2km from the town centre and at least part of the walk is along a very busy main road, so a car is desirable."

Brit Hotel Confort Foix

"Chambre propre, Personnel serviable Petit déjeuner de base correct"

Hotel Piolets Soldeu Centre by Nexta

10/10 Excellent

"Our first impressions were mixed as this was our first time at a ski resort in the summer and there was some building work outside of the hotel we didn’t know about that concerned me and a lot of the guests were more senior so we were skeptical . We quickly changed our minds. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, we all had plenty of room and the bathrooms were very generous. The sliding doors blocked the outside noise! Not sure where I’d hang all the wet ski stuff but not a problem this time. The food was great, good selection, especially good breakfast buffet. Staff lovely and helpful. Spa and gym very well equipped . Shame it wasn’t open for longer hours. Hotel arranged a massage for one of us, they were especially lovely to my son who happens to be Autistic, I was very impressed by their kindness in this regard. The entertainment was really good also and not just for families with little kids, everyone got involved. We liked the whole multigenerational vibe here . Soldeu has some excellent restaurants and loads to do at a very reasonable price. We will definitely back to ski ! Thank you x"

Hotel Nexta Soldeu (Himàlaia)

10/10 Excellent

"100% recommend this hotel. The location, walking distance to the gondola was fantastic. There was a locker to store all of your ski equipment, the rooms were great, clean and had everything we needed. The best part about this hotel was the breakfast and dinner buffet. There were many options for everyone on days that we just wanted to eat at the hotel."

Résidence Vacancéole Le Domaine de la Vallée d'Ax

Pierre & Vacances Andorra El Tarter

10/10 Excellent

"Accommodating, clean and convenient, we had this 3-bed flat for a week and had a great time. Parking is a bit tricky, some furniture needed replacing, but it was minor issue. Could have left more soap, bin bags, etc. No balcony nor view but these are available as extra. Will be back!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Montsegur?

The best area to stay in Montségur is within the village itself, or in the immediate surrounding countryside, for direct access to the Cathar Castle and a peaceful experience.Montségur village is quite small, located at the foot of the Montségur peak. It consists of a few streets with local guesthouses, a couple of restaurants, and the museum. Staying here means you're just a short walk from the path leading up to the Château de Montségur, a significant historical site. For couples seeking a tranquil retreat with a focus on history and nature, staying directly in the village or one of the nearby hamlets is ideal. You'll wake up to views of the Pyrenees foothills and have the convenience of walking to the castle entrance. Many accommodations here offer a quiet base for exploring the region's Cathar history.Alternatively, for those who prefer more space and perhaps a more rural setting, the immediate countryside surrounding Montségur offers delightful gîtes and chambre d'hôtes. These are often converted farmhouses, providing a comfortable stay with easy driving access to the village (typically a 5-10 minute drive) and other regional attractions.

When is the best time to go to Montsegur?

The best time to visit Montsegur is generally from late spring to early autumn, specifically May, June, and September. These months offer pleasant weather, with comfortable temperatures that are ideal for exploring the castle ruins and enjoying the surrounding countryside. You'll find the days are typically sunny and long, great for hiking and outdoor activities without the intense heat of mid-summer.July and August are also popular, but the weather can be quite hot, especially for climbing up to the castle. It's also peak tourist season, so you might encounter more visitors. However, if you don't mind the heat and the crowds, this period still offers plenty of sunshine and a lively option in the local villages. For those who prefer cooler temperatures and fewer people, May and September are particularly good choices.
