Chris and Freya were such welcoming hosts. The place was absolutely perfect and we bought the most beautiful eggs I've ever seen from the farm. So relaxing and perfect location for loads of walks!
The cottage was perfect for our short stay in March 2024. Very cosy, peaceful, warm and well appointed accomodation in a lovely rural location. The hosts Chris and Freya were very friendly and on hand if required.
We had a fab time, everything was clean and tidy and the hosts were extremely helpful and hospitable, the views amazing and with our car managed to get to see the villages, seaside and castle easily
Many thanks, Freya and Chris
A lovely quiet self catering accommodation in a quiet location. Dog friendly. Comfy beds. All the facilities & equipment you need. Lovely log fire, which we were grateful for as it snowed on our visit. Chris & Freya are great hosts. Highly recommended.
It’s a beautiful location with views down the little valley and entertaining ducks to watch, enjoying their swim. Chris is very friendly and easy to communicate with. The cottage itself is well kitted out, comfy with a wood burner. Perfect countryside getaway for some nature and peace and quiet!
The Shippon had every thing required for a pleasant short break. Lovely location set on the side of a hill. Chris and Freya were on hand if required.
Many thanks
Beautiful holiday cottage tucked away in the Somerset countryside
This cottage ticked all of the boxes that myself and my family were looking for: quiet countryside cottage with views, close to Exmoor and the coast, cosy and comfortable and value for money. Chris and Freya were incredibly helpful with their information prior to arriving and once we arrived at the cottage. Little things like fresh milk, tea and coffee available on arrival, an information booklet with so much detail about the cottage, its features and the area we were staying in and just a lovely, clean and cosy place to stay for a couple of days. We were so impressed with everything about our stay here. The log burner was wonderful and the cottage had everything you needed for your short break. Thank you for all the little features, they definitely made this stay just so great!
Excellent accommodation, has everything you could possible need and very comfortable. Very peaceful location. Weather not brilliant but a very nice break all the same, would thoroughly recommend.
It's very rare to find a place with so much peace and quiet and so much nature around it. These beautiful old trees... and all the plants, really something special. The best place you can find if you're looking for peace and quiet. There are good pubs within a few miles and the sea is not far away either. What more could you want? Chris and Freya are very courteous and friendly hosts. We will definitely come back. Thomas, Evi, and Mara from Italy
Chris was there to meet us and from that moment on we had a great stay despite the truly awful weather. Cutthorne, set on a small farm, is peaceful with easy access to the all of Exmoor’s and the local coast’s delights. The nights are quiet and the Shippon are beds super comfy, so great for a good night’s rest. The woodburner worked a treat and the kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans and utensils for easy cooking. Fully recommended.
I chose this place because of the good reviews and the location. Cannot fault the accommodation, it was delightful. High quality bedding and beds which were so comfortable, nothing worse than an uncomfortable bed when your on holiday . Kitchen had everything you need and a lovely wood burner . Chris and Freya were lovely hosts with lots of knowledge about the area. If you love peace n quiet and spectacular scenery , then this is the place for you . I will be back
Sehr nettes Cottage in idyllischer Umgebung, top ausgestattet, sauber in hübschen, ansprechenden Räumlichkeiten. Tolle, sehr nette und aufmerksame Gastgeber, die jederzeit ansprechbar waren. Haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt, würden immer wieder kommen!
We spent a lovely weekend with friends at this cottage. The location was fantastic for walking, and the hosts were friendly.
The only small things to mention is that we noticed a lot of cobwebs in the vaulted ceiling in the living room, and some mould on the wall by the main door. The bedrooms and bathroom were well kept, cosy and warm. However the living room only really warmed up after having the fire roaring for some time but it was a particular cold weekend with the snow.
Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves, thank you!
Small but compact with everything we needed. Even a Christmas cake! Set in stunning countryside - only a short drive to many places. Unfortunately the weather wasn't kind to us, this didn't stop us venturing our on Christmas day to walk from Porlock Weir to Culborn Church - the smallest church in England. The only downside was the outside steps which our aging labrador just couldn't handle. Not to worry, a great stay - thinking of visiting in the Summer.
The cottage was lovely. The setting and surroundings were tranquil.
Peaceful and relaxing, Home from home. Chris and Freya were lovely.

We really enjoyed our stay. So did our 2 dogs 😀.
Amazing countryside so couldn't fault the views. Cottage roomy yet cosy and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
We can recommend The Crown in Exford. Food exceptional.
Great weekend and only wish our stay had been longer.

Comfortable cottage in a lovely location
We had a lovely week at Cutthorne - views of a gentle, traditional farmyard and lots of interesting bird life. The cottage is uncomplicated, comfortable beds and simply but adequately equipped. The wood burning stove is easy to use and brings a focus on dull evenings - Chris has extra wood for sale if you use the first basket too enthusiastically. Centrally placed for Exmoor with good facilities( pubs, post offices petrol, ATM, general stores) within a couple of miles in both directions. We needed somewhere to unwind after a couple of busy weeks and this was ideal

Beautiful and peaceful country escape .
Brilliant from the start to finish .Chris and Freya the owners messaged us on day of arrival giving helpful directions. Both were there to welcome us and it felt right straight away.
Chris showed us around.Flowers on table a nice touch.Milk provided for that necessary first cuppa. Cottage clean and quaint ...we were very comfortable straight away.
Great weather so we enjoyed the garden......had a relaxing early evening there with a glass of wine enjoying views on first night.
Lovely peaceful location was just what we wanted and the animals enhanced it.
Very close to Dunkery Beacon with good walks and cycle paths. Had very good food locally including a great carvery. Freya recommended some good places of interest and walks. We were not disappointed. One sunny afternoon we made a picnic for lunch and walked to the top of the field behind cottage and spent the afternoon eating, chatting, reading and taking in the views.(we also had a little doze).Perfection.From the same spot l took a series of exceptional photographs very early one morning with a mist in the valley. We also watched a large flock of geese arrive and land in the field imfrount of us ...very noisy and very special
The pheasants stayed close to welcome us and remained near for the whole of our stay. For bird watchers it's heaven
Great escape in glorious surroundings. We will definitely return ...Highly recommemed.Thank you Chris and Freya.

Lovely cottage in great surroundings
The cottage is lovely situated among the Exmoor hills. It is very comfortable with a nice atmosphere. Great bathroom, kitchen somewhat outdated, but it has all facilities. The surroundings are astonishing, Exmoor is great. Thank you Richard and Freya, we certainly come back!
