Find hotels in Maxixe from CA $34

The best area to stay in Maxixe is along the waterfront, particularly near the main ferry terminal and market area.

This area is the heart of Maxixe, offering direct access to the bay and the bustling local life. You'll find the main market here, where locals trade fresh produce, seafood, and crafts, creating a lively option. The ferry terminal is also located here, providing easy connections to Inhambane across the bay. The main road, running parallel to the waterfront, is lined with small shops and eateries.

For travellers looking for convenience and a genuine local experience, staying near the waterfront is ideal. You're right in the middle of the daily activity, making it easy to explore the local market, try street food, and catch a dhow or ferry for a trip across the bay.

Couples might prefer the slightly quieter sections just a short walk from the central market, where guesthouses often offer bay views and a more relaxed setting while still being very close to the main attractions.

The best time to go to Maxixe is during the dry season, which runs from April to November.

During these months, you'll experience pleasant temperatures and minimal rainfall, making it ideal for enjoying the coastal activities and exploring the town. The drier weather ensures comfortable conditions for boat trips, market visits, and simply relaxing by the water.

For those planning to combine their trip with beach holidays in nearby Tofo or Vilanculos, the dry season also offers the best conditions for diving and snorkelling, with clearer waters and calmer seas.
