There is no air-conditioning so leaving the window and balcony door open for the cool breeze was a must. The room was nice and my only complaint is that the floor was a little sticky . Although the front desk clerk was efficient I thought she could be a little more welcoming . Located in the heritage district, this hotel has character. We stayed for 3 nights. Evenings were a little noisy but that didn't worry us too much. The Las, I'm sorry I cannot remember your name, who was on the front desk was an absolute delight. She was always happy to see us on our return each day from adventuring into the alps. Hotel Alpina became our home away from home. On our second day we requested another fan for our room, and it was replaced immediately. Since Lucerne is so expensive, having the train station underground mall nearby is handy since it has relatively affordable groceries (the Coop store is awesome). Also, the train station has an amazing Tourist Info office that’s a great resource, and its entrance is right across the street from the street Alpina sits on. So convenient! Also, the pizza restaurant next door to Alpina is fabulous, and the rooftop bar at neighboring Monopole Hotel is the perfect place to go after you check in, for the views and ambience. We loved the fresh fruit left for guests at the front desk each morning; it made for good snacks later when we were on the train back from the mountains. Alpina was perfect for our family of four; we appreciated the quad room that allowed us to have separate beds for the teens and two rooms.
