The best area to stay in Lobitz is the Old Town, particularly around Marktplatz.

The Old Town is the historic heart of Lobitz, characterised by its cobblestone streets and well-preserved medieval architecture. Marktplatz, the main square, is a central point, surrounded by historic buildings such as the Old Town Hall and St. Martin's Church. This area is very walkable, with numerous independent shops, traditional bakeries, and restaurants lining its narrow lanes.

Couples will find the Old Town particularly appealing. Its charming atmosphere, opportunities for leisurely strolls, and access to quaint cafes and fine dining establishments make it a wonderful base for a romantic getaway. Many hotels here offer boutique experiences within renovated historic buildings.

For travellers interested in a quieter stay with easy access to green spaces, the area just south of the Old Town, bordering the River Elbe, is ideal. This neighbourhood offers a more residential feel with lovely riverside paths for walking or cycling, yet it's still only a short walk to the main attractions of Marktplatz.

The best time to go to Lobitz is during the late spring (May to early June) and early autumn (September to early October) when the weather is pleasant and the region is particularly scenic.

During late spring, the landscape around Lobitz comes alive with lush greenery and blooming flowers, making it ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking and cycling along the Elbe River. The temperatures are mild, typically ranging from 15°C to 20°C, superb for exploring the historic town centre and its surroundings without the heat of mid-summer. This period is particularly good for couples looking for a romantic getaway, with opportunities to enjoy leisurely boat trips on the Elbe or visit local vineyards.

Early autumn also offers excellent conditions, with comfortable temperatures averaging between 12°C and 18°C. The changing colours of the foliage provide a stunning backdrop, especially in the Saxon Switzerland National Park, which is easily accessible from Lobitz. This time of year is fantastic for solo travellers interested in photography or those who prefer a more tranquil experience, as the peak summer crowds have dispersed.
