The best area to stay in Kota Belud is generally on the outskirts of the main town, particularly in areas offering direct access to nature or cultural experiences.

For travellers seeking a unique cultural experience, areas near the Kadazan-Dusun villages or along the Tempasuk River are ideal. These locations provide opportunities to stay in traditional guesthouses and experience local life, often including activities like buffalo racing or visiting the local tamu (open-air market).
