The condo had everything we needed to get started and was beautifully furnished - it felt so welcoming and relaxing.And the bed… wow! So comfy! I may have lost my husband in it a few times (it’s huge), but we both agreed it was comfort to the max — and that never happens!Communication with the host was a breeze — clear, friendly, and responsive. The keyless entry was so convenient, and the location near the elevator makes it ideal for anyone with mobility concerns.All in all, this was our second stay at Kauhale Makai, and once again, it did not disappoint. The location is bang on for enjoying all Kihei has to offer and a quick walk across the lawn gets you to the beach. We love our time in Hawaii, and appreciate the community aloha wherever we go. We aren't overly picky, and overall this unit is okay. I would equal it to a 2 star hotel on the mainland. The pros: great location, great grounds (pool, hot tub, lawn), short walk to beach. The cons: it feels a little sparse in the unit, not very inviting. It also has a smell, musty in a more than this is the tropics way. AC is pretty old, so perhaps it's that. The standup fan provided was the most disgusting fan I have seen, we never used it. The bed was broken, and yes as another person said: has a topper so it's incredibly soft. But overall, the unit felt pretty dingy to us. To be very fair, we let the property manager know all the issues and they replied they would update/fix things right away, so I'm hoping the next folks found the unit to be in much better condition. ##### Jessica F. Its hot and you just sink into it. Unless you like soft beds then you'd love it. The property amenities were great. Pool hot tub grill and the beach on the bay nearby were awesome. Communication was pretty good. Except they never replied when i asked what kind of coffee maker so we had to do 2 grocery store runs after we saw it was only a regular drip coffee maker. Upon arrival the base of the toilet was DISGUSTING id never seen something so dirty- while the property manager was kind and responsive and sent someone to clean it the next day, how this even happened in the first place is beyond me- you could smell how dirty it was. The shower curtain was also moldy and they replaced it with just another old dirty shower curtain. The sofa & throw pillows were stained and the rug in the living room looked like it had been used for years and years. I appreciate the responsiveness of the property manager but these cleaning issues need to be addressed. If I had another option I definitely would have left and stayed somewhere else. ##### J.j. R. Superb location...close for grabbing groceries, quick bites and any other needs. Beaches out front are wonderful for long walks and quiet during the day. The evening sunsets are epic! If you want to venture out to explore other beaches, areas, adventures, eateries you are mid way to everything. My husband and daughter participated in the Maui marathon and getting them to and from was easy. The unit is well equipped with towels, beach chairs and a beach umbrella. The kitchen is also well equipped. My only complaint is that there were some maintenance issues, and the cleanliness of the unit was sub par. As my 8 month old grandson was with us for a few days I was very conscious of swifting the floors daily and the mop was black!! The curtains are very dirty and there is evidence of some water damage in the bathroom. The sliders do not work properly, especially the one in the master bedroom. I could not open it on my own at all. The property is very well maintained and the staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful! ##### Roma D. The unit is stocked with all the amenities that you will need. The grounds are manicured well maintained. The balcony views with a cup of coffee was a great way to start the day. I enjoyed the proximity to the shoreline. While convenient for a quick dip or beach walk, I didn’t find it the best place to swim/snorkel. That’s ok, because there are amazing places a couple minutes down the road (along with great food options).
