You are in a National Park area- This is the most beautiful part of Iceland - No 2 in the the top 10 best places to see the Northern lights in Iceland. https://www.northernlightsiceland.com/best-place-to-see-northern-lights-in-iceland/ With its glistening white cone visible from Reykjavík on a clear day, Snæfellsjökull is the most potent and enduring symbol of Snæfellsnes. If the glacier weren't there, however, the manifold wonders of Snæfellsnes would stand out just the same. Snæfellsjökull, (1,446 m) an ancient cone volcano, one of finest mountains in Iceland. An impressive sight from as far away as Reykjavík, from where it can be seen in clear weather, seeming to rise from the sea. Many prehistoric eruptions took place in the glacier-covered crater at its peak, and its slopes are covered with lava. The glacier is fairly easy to climb, about 4-6 hours to the highest peak, Þúfur. At the eastern base is a Tourist Association hut, now in ruins. The glacier dominates the area, the western part of which is covered with lava and known as “under the glacier”. L’escalier qui monte aux chambres est très raide (genre échelle de meunier). On aurait aimé rencontrer les propriétaires. Le fait de devoir laver les draps et serviettes des précédents locataires est assez contraignant. Même si le lave linge et sèche linge fonctionnent très bien. Pas de problème pour faire le ménage en partant mais la gestion du linge devrait être faite par les propriétaires. Ceci étant dit nous avons passé un excellent séjour à Hellnar dans ce cottage numéro 1\. ##### Catherine H. Younger children and older adults could very much struggle to ascend and descend. A hot tub is listed as one of the amenities, in reality there's none. The house is not as private and peaceful as it is shown in the pictures, it is a part of cottage complex and neighboring houses are just a few meters away. The property was not clean upon arrival. There were safety and privacy issues. The guys who stayed in the next house were messing with my car and later same day a housekeeper from that house was circling the house I was staying in with a loud snowmobile. I need to also mention parking problems. No one bothered to clear the snow from the parking lot and the driveway, so people had park on the main road and carry the suitcases and groceries all the way from there in knee deep snow. Hot water is very limited in this house. If you do the laundry and wash the dishes using hot water, you might not have enough of it for a shower. Gut ausgestattete Ferienwohnung mit ausreichendem Platz und schöner Aussicht. Die Schlafzimmer sind im Obergeschoss und durch eine Treppe (steil) zu erreichen. Die Ferienwohnung wird vom Vormieter gereinigt: es müssen am Ende des Aufenthaltes die Betten neu bezogen werden und die gebrauchte Wäsche muss gewaschen und dann in den Trockner gegeben werden. The House is so lovely and it has everything you need! There is a huge dvd collection, wifi, and a such a nice reading corner with a huge coach and awesome view:) There is a lot you can do, we willfor sure come again, maybe more than 3 nights.
