Base Camp is a 2 miles up a windy gravel road. In the winter the road is covered in snow and ice. The road is plowed, although you will need to be prepared with an adequate vehicle. \~ If traveling with a little one, we have you covered! We have a Pack-n-Play, baby gate, baby bathtub, bouncer, high chair, and sound baby monitor for your use. \~ Don't worry, we didn't forget about your fur baby. Dogs are welcome for an additional $100 pet fee (2 dog limit). This is put toward the extra time it takes our cleaner to get all hairs and messes even the most clean, well-behaved dogs leave, along with the longer term care we need to keep our house immaculate! A dog bed, food/water bowls, baggies and some dog toys are provided for your convenience. \~ We are in rural Colorado, and while having the highest speed internet choice, it could be spotty at times. \~ No AC - but thankfully you're in the Rocky Mountains! Open the windows and turn on the ceiling fan and we promise you won't be thinking about AC! You'll likely want a sweatshirt and blanket at night, even in the middle of summer. \~ Our cabin sits at 11,000 ft in elevation. Although most people are not effected, some may feel the effects of the altitude. Drink plenty of water, utilize the humidifiers, and take it easy. \~ Due to county fire bans and STR ordinances, outdoor open fires are prohibited. We loved unwinding in the hot tub each night, tackling puzzles, playing card games, hiking, and hunting for the hidden gnomes. The house is clean, comfortable, and stocked with everything you could possibly need—a true home away from home. I especially enjoyed watching the birds at the feeder. Just a tip: don’t forget your snow boots! Be sure to stock up at the market on your way in, then settle in and enjoy the peace and quiet. ##### Donna H. The cabin is tucked in the mountains just outside of Fairplay and close to restaurants and grocery shopping in town. Breckenridge is only about 40 mins away. Since the cabin is in the mountains up, you do need a vehicle with good tires - the roads were icy and snow packed during our December stay. We did use our chains once after a snow shower for more traction on the county roads leading up to the cabin - the hosts have chains in the garage if you didn't bring any. Most days, however, we were able to get up the mountain just fine with the AWD and snow tires. The kitchen is stocked with plenty of dishes and utensils. There is also plenty of paper goods and shampoo/soap. The children enjoyed playing with the snow toys. Having access to the garage was a huge plus - it kept the ice and snow off of our vehicle. Thank you for a great stay! If we return to the area, we would be sure to stay at Base Camp again. ##### Iliyana D. We were lucky to get snow, which made it even more magical. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed to make Thanksgiving dinner. We found this cabin to be the perfect place to take in fresh mountain air and enjoy the views. My kids loved the arcade games and the hot tub. The chalet is very clean and literally has everything you need. My 9 year old son loved the arcade and hot tub, dogs loved exploring around the property, and my husband and I were able to sit back and relax. You felt like you were out in the wilderness with no one around. The 2-3 mile drive down the dirt/snowy road was amazing. Ensure you have 4WD or chains in the winter to make the drive to the house. The hot tub was amazing, large enough to fit 6 people, and you can't beat the views overlooking the valley! Located in a beautiful mountain forest with breathtaking views and a peaceful serenity. But even as great as the property was, it didn’t compare to how wonderful the host and experience was. The home was well stocked, extremely clean, and came with a very detailed manual that explained important facts about the home and gave lots of highlights about the local area. Communication with the host was timely, friendly, and filled with a welcoming warmth that made my family excited to spend time in their home.
