"Very good and family friendly experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, overall an excellent stay. The only complaint would be that dinner at 2 of the 4 restaurants felt a little like a conveyor belt where the priority seemed to be getting us fed and out as quickly as possible rather than having us enjoy the dining experience. With that said the experience at the other 2 restaurants was excellent."

"This hotel is beyond gorgeous, relaxing, and goes above and beyond! Everyone is so friendly and will help you with anything you need. The second you walk in you are greeted and shown around the property and treated like royalty. The breakfast was amazing and we had dinner there one night, which was also extremely delicious. Cocktails were strong and delicious and the beach is super nice and relaxing with attentive service. It is also close to the town… I forgot jewelry in the room upon...

Nautilux Rethymno by Mage Hotels

8/10 Good

"Over all hotel is nice , Everyone working here was nice and kind . Anyhow for 5 star hotel shower enclosure is only 2 stars…. It is no door from living area to the bathroom,so it is crazy cold when you get out from the shower, and enclosure itself is ridiculously uncomfortable, Other thing -guests are allowed to smoke in a balcony,no separation between smoking and nonsmoking rooms,so you will smell disgusting cigarette smoke all day long… Also -5 star hotel does not have heated pool ,so October 12 th pool temperature was 15 degrees Celsius-that is absolutely ridiculous…please invest some money for your pool heating,so guests, who paid for 5 star hotel can enjoy it …"

Grecotel LUX ME White

8/10 Good

"The property was very clean and well maintained. All of the staff were extremely friendly. Overall the food was very good. Not at all the properties fault but it rained 2 of the 4 days we stayed at this resort. A lot of this resorts amenities (ping pong, full size chess) and even some of the a la carte restaurants do not operate when it's raining. And with everyone needing to be inside, the common area's felt a bit cramped."

Grecotel Marine Palace & Aqua Park

10/10 Excellent

Aquila Rithymna Beach

8/10 Good

"BEAUTIFUL MAINTAINED GROUNDS. FRIENDLY HELPFUL STAFF. WE HAD A PARTIAL SEA VIEW BUNGALOW - THE VIEW WAS GOOD & BUNGALOWS ARE LOCATED IN A QUITE PART OF THE RESORT. LOVED OUR BALCONY ( RM 30). MAIN CRITICISM OF THE ROOM IS THE OVER BATH SHOWER. WHOEVER PLANNED PUTTING THE TAPS IN THE CENTRE OF THE BATH AS WELL AS THE WIRE RACK & SOAP DISPENSERS HAS NEVER TRIED TO STAND TAKING A SHOWER IN THE BATH WHILST FIGHTING THE PLASTIC SHOWER SHEET - IT IS DANGEROUS . I CANNOT IMAGINE HOW HEAVIER / LARGER PEOPLE MANAGE IT!!. RECEPTION - VERY RESPONSIVE TO ANY REQUESTS IE COFFEE NOT TOPPED UP WAS QUICKLY RESOLVED. RESORT AMENITIES: POOLS BEAUTIFUL & WELL MAINTAINED. AQUA PARK GOOD FUN. BARS/RESTAURANTS: MAIN BUFFET BREAKFAST - EXCELLENT FOOD CHOICES BUT VERY BUSY. BETTER OPTION HAVE BREAKFAST IN PERGOLA SIDE - TABLES WIDER SPACED - FEELS LESS HECTIC. LOVED THE GREEK RESTAURANT / FOOD & STAFF. AL A CARTE RESTAURANT LOVELY. BEACH BAR - LOVELY DRINKS BUT UNDER STAFFED SO SERVICE CAN BE VERY VERY SLOW!!! SERVICE AT MAIN BAR POOR WHEN ON LOWER LEVEL. FAILED TO BE SERVED OUR DRINKS ON 3 OCCASIONS WHEN ORDERED DOWNSTAIRS. RESORT IS VERY CHILD FRIENDLY. WOULD I GO BACK - PERSONALLY THINK THE AI PACKAGE IS OVERPRICED AND THE ROOMS ARE NOT REALLY 5*. IN SPITE OF THIS WE REALLY ENJOYED OUR STAY"

Grecotel Plaza Beach House

10/10 Excellent

"We booked a room at the last minute. There will a little mix up upon arrival but the hotel upgraded us and bought us dinner to compensate us. Honestly, there was no need. The hotel was fabulous and the staff could not have been friendlier. The beach area was perfect and exactly what we wanted during our time in Greece. Rethymno is a lovely town and not nearly as busy as Chania, which made a huge difference. We would definitely go back to this hotel."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Erfoi?

The best area to stay in Erfoi is the historic village centre, particularly around the central square and the streets leading off it.

This area is the heart of Erfoi, known for its traditional Cretan architecture, stone houses, and narrow, winding alleys. The central square is a focal point, often bustling with activity, and you'll find a good selection of tavernas, cafes, and small shops selling local produce and crafts. Many accommodations here offer views of the surrounding olive groves and mountains.

Couples looking for a romantic and authentic Greek experience will find the village centre ideal. You can enjoy leisurely strolls through the picturesque streets, discover hidden courtyards, and dine at family-run tavernas offering local specialities. It's a fantastic base for exploring the local culture and enjoying peaceful evenings.

For those seeking a more secluded and quiet stay, properties just on the outskirts of the main village centre, still within walking distance, offer a good balance.

When is the best time to go to Erfoi?

The best time to visit Erfoi, Crete, is during the shoulder seasons of May, early June, September, and early October.

These months offer pleasant weather, with warm temperatures great for exploring the island's natural beauty and historical sites, without the intense heat and larger crowds of mid-summer. You'll find the sea warm enough for swimming, and the local businesses will be fully operational, offering a complete experience.

For those looking to avoid any possibility of rain and who enjoy very warm temperatures, July and August are also excellent, though they are the busiest and hottest months. If you're planning a trip focused purely on beach relaxation and don't mind the bustling atmosphere, this is a good choice.

Conversely, late autumn through early spring (November to April) sees cooler temperatures and more rain, with many tourist-focused businesses closing down for the off-season.
