About this property
Family Friendly Log Cabin
We like to think of the cabin as 'small but perfectly formed' and furnished to the highest standard. The living room features a cast iron stove, extremely comfortable soft furnishings, original artwork and the world's most beguiling rocking chair. There’s a patio door which looks out over our top fields to the woodland beyond. The kitchen area is fully fitted with fridge, washing machine, dishwasher and all of the usual accessories such as kettle, microwave and toaster and there’s a round dining table for the family to enjoy eating together. Unlike many other 'log cabin' self-catering holiday homes, ours is not one of a number where you can be victim to noisy neighbours; it sits on its own over 150 meters from the farm yard. Visitors have already told us that what they've enjoyed most is the peace and tranquility that it offers after a busy day doing holiday things. Our visitors have told us that they've enjoyed the very comfortable beds: a king-sized double bed in one room and twin beds in the other. All bed linen and towels are provided and heating and hot water is included. Sit out on the decking area and relax but be careful before you venture out early in the morning because we often have deer, brown hares and other wildlife coming down to graze and they're easily frightened - there's a pair of binoculars you can use if you enjoy wildlife watching. You'll need a car to move to and fro at Belstane Log Cabin but just three miles away there's a train station where the trains to Edinburgh and Glasgow run approximately every hour and from Balerno there's a bus service into Edinburgh every fifteen minutes or so. Parking is easy to find for both services. West Lothian is stacked with things to do from country walks, to golf, fishing and for the kids there’s plenty to do: swimming pools, the ‘Jump Station’ trampoline event, our very own local, and award winning Five Sister Zoo and many more. If you’re a TV watcher of epic dramas then West Lothian, which is liberally peppered with castles is where several of them, like Outlander are filmed. And of course, there’s a host of historic sites within easy reach to visit from Linlithgow Palace to the world famous Roslin Chapel which dates back almost a thousand years to the Knights Templarand where scenes from The Da Vinci Code were filmed.

Lovely stay for 6 nights in this delightful cabin surrounded by fields.
Super comfy bed and everything we needed.
It was convenient for Livingston and Edinburgh with a car.
Kind touch of flowers, fruit and wine too and the very nice owners gentle and friendly goldies popped by to say hello every now and again.
Would stay again for sure.
This was our second stay at this property and it was just as good as the first. Just 30 mins drive from Edinburgh, and 10 mins from the Pentland Hills it's perfect for both a city and country break. Extremely dog friendly too with plenty of space to run around outside. All communication was clear and timely, and we were greeted with a bottle of wine, lovely note and flowers. We will certainly try and return for a third stay in future.
The cottage was clean and according to description. The kids loved the backyard with the higlander cows and we loved watching the sunset over de forth bridges. Perfect location to visit Hopetoun house, Royal yacht brittanica and all the sights in Edinburgh. The cottage had everything we needed. Our only point to note is that the fridge and tv were very small but we made it work. Would totally recommend and stay again if we are in the area.
We had the best stay, such a welcoming, cosy cabin, perfectly sized with everything you could need for a peaceful escape to the countryside, whilst being super close to local trains and Edinburgh. Would love to stay again! Our daughter said she wanted to stay forever!
We had a wonderful stay. The home is exactly as described with wonderful views, gorgeous highland cows and a super base to explore. We would love to return!

very clean and comfortable a credit to Fee and family
Loved that it was on its own but good access via park and ride to Edinburgh would recommend.
From check-in to check-out, we absolutely loved our short stay at this property. Communication with our hosts was excellent and we had everything we needed in the cabin. The warm welcome was also very much appreciated after the long drive! Thank you for everything.
A great cabin, with all the amenities you might need. Dave and Fi are great hosts. Beautiful countryside, and a nice drive to Edinburgh. We'll definitely come back if we're in the area!
My partner and I were here for four days and we adored the location.
After going on a holiday packed with people all around it was so nice to get away from everything and completely recharge.
The dog adored it too.
More than likely to book this place again as it is just the perfect getaway!
We had such a lovely time at Belstane Cabin. Its a fantastic place to stay in such a perfect location - you feel like you're deep in the countryside yet can be in Edinburgh in half an hour. The cabin is so well-equipped, warm and comfortable, and we definitely hope to come again. Fiona and Dave were brilliant, and communication was great throughout booking & our stay.

Stunning rural retreat
The log cabin is beautifully set out , the photos don’t do it justice .
Everything you need for a break away from it all . Lots of walks and Livingston shopping a short drive away for the essentials.
Just wish the weather had been as lovely as the cabin :)
The cabin was perfect for my husband and I, our daughter, and our beagle. David and Fiona were very welcoming and accommodating. The cabin is well-kept and has everything you could need, but especially privacy. It's decorated with lovely art and has that personalized vibe that makes you feel safe. The location is perfect. We were able to go see a variety of things that were within a 90 minute drive and Edinburgh is super close. If you want country living with easy access to the city and many national treasures, it's the perfect place.
Belstane Cabin was just beautiful. Hosts Fiona and Dave were so welcoming and informative . The location is perfect and the cabin is so well and tastefully equipped. The welcoming bowl of fruit and bottle of wine was such a lovely touch. Thank you for everything
Dave and Fi have a beautiful, well-designed, and well-kept little cabin just outside of Edinburgh. With room to breathe the Scottish fresh air, green fields all around you, and sheep grazing in the pasture, this cabin is an ideal location for rest and relaxation, especially for couples or families who like the great outdoors. Dave and Fi were extremely hospitable and had some breakfast supplies and flowers on the dining table for us when we arrived. Just wish we could have stayed longer!
Most amazing and welcoming hosts we’ve ever stayed with. The property is amazing and for us it was perfectly located. Very quiet and the views are breath taking. If I’m ever blessed enough to visit scotland again. I will be booking at this property. Absolutely made our visit that much better. if you want a secluded getaway that’s quiet yet close enough to stores and restaurants stay here. Do not look any further
Fiona's cabin is the best way to enjoy your holiday in Edinburgh, without staying in the city. The space is delightful, cozy and perfect for a couple or a full family. Fiona helped us find the Lothian 44 bus--a relaxing no-drive-no-parking 30 minute cruise into the heart of Edinburgh. We sat on the deck and watched the lambs frolic all evening after sight-seeing. We are so grateful to Fiona and her family for sharing this space with us!
Beautifully presented log cabin in stunning countryside location
This log cabin is beautifully presented with quality furnishings inside (I simply loved the woollen tartan curtains!!). It is certainly very cosy and welcoming. Fiona met us as we drove up and there was lovely flowers, wine and fresh fruit for our arrival and a personalised card which was a very unique touch. Bedrooms were both spacious with crisp white linen sheets and lovely furnishings. Nice to see original artwork throughout the property by David - very impressive. Kitchen was high spec with eveything you could wish for. Spent many a morning counting the sheep (29 was my largest count) and we did have one roe deer near one day and an owl on the post one night. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a lovely quiet getaway. Pity we had rainy weather but it is Scotland!!! Would love to come back just a pity it is a min 4 night stay as we are often up for 2 nights to visit our son at uni but appreciate that is more difficult to accommodate.
Pre-trip contact with Fi the owner was clear and friendly, and there was a lovely welcome note, wine, and fruit awaiting us on arrival. The cabin is well laid out with comfy furnishings and a modern shower room. It was also kept nice and warm. Fi popped up to say hi on our first evening and check everything was ok. We didn't need to bother her during our trip but it was good to know she was just down the track if we had any problems. We spent most of our week walking in the Pentland Hills which are gorgeous, but it was also an easy 30 min drive into Edinburgh. There's also a train station just 5 mins drive away, which our daughter used to visit us. Our dog loved the cabin and surrounding areas. There were no sheep in Fi's fields during our visit which mean Ted could be off lead as soon we opened the cabin door, and he thought that was fantastic! We'll definitely return here when visiting Edinburgh in future!
If you’re looking to relax, unplug, and unwind, this is the place for you! Fiona and Dave’s cabin had everything we needed, with ample room for four adults. We made meals in the well-equipped kitchen and enjoyed relaxing in front of the gas fire. The cabin was cozy and warm during our November stay. Thanks for sharing this wonderful place!
So, here is my dilemma - do I describe how this holiday property ticks all the boxes (and there are many boxes to tick on our wish-list) or keep quiet and maximise our chances of securing a booking for our preferred dates the next time? Because accommodation this good is worthy of many re-visits. The log cabin itself is ideally situated by itself on farm land, off the beaten track but with easy access to a main route into Edinburgh about 30 minutes away. Our hosts were most welcoming, in person and also in their provision of some extra items which made us feel very much at home. Since it was me that did the leg-work to find the property for our short break it was very gratifying, on the day of our arrival, to hear my wife say repeatedly "this is wonderful!" Not wishing to sound like an estate agent, nevertheless the facilities are complete, immaculate, well thought out and superbly furnished and decorated. Every consideration has been given for our comfort and safety. We have used HomeAway / Vrbo many times over the years and this is the first time I have felt compelled to submit a review as long as this one. We will most definately be returning next year.
It was truly amazing. This was our 2nd stay and it was all as we remembered. Greeted with a vase of flowers, fruit in the bowl and a bottle of wine.Fe and Dave are absolutely lovely nothing too much trouble. Will definitely return sometime soon....COVID PERMITTIMG.
I chose this log cabin as it looked remote and surrounded by greenery. I had been stuck in the desert of the Middle East for 22 months and thie more than delivered my much needed 'green therapy'.
The cabin itself had everything you needed and things you didn't know you needed. Well equipped, well laid out, very private even though the main house is not that far away.
The extra touches by Fi and Dave were greatly appreciated. I would have no hesitation in recommending this place or returning.
We came here with our 4 year old and our 1.5 year old for 3 nights after lockdown to visit a relative nearby. We had a great time - the kids especially, seeing the sheep on the doorstep. The log cabin is well fitted and equipped, with good attention to detail. Fiona was very communicative throughout the process, from booking to check out, and was very accommodating when we had to reschedule. Her partner was also kind enough to come see if we settled in ok the first morning. Thanks for a great stay and
