It was built in Kutná Hora town in Central Bohemia during the days when it was the most important silver mining place in Czech kingdom. The building began in 1388 and it was finished in 1558 when the mining ceased to be profitable. Actually it was not initiated by any church institution but it was a representative chappel building sponsored by wealthy towns men and dedicated to patron saint of miners, the saint Barbara.
