"The hotel was nice and very clean. The only issue that bothered us was about 10 mins. after check-in we were in the room and there was a knock at the door. Before we could even get to the door, the guy from the front desk opens our door with a key and starts in. He was startled and left with no good explanation. Sketchy. 😳"

"The hot water was not working so we couldn’t take a shower. The room had a smell and it wasn’t even that I had allergies that it was overwhelming. I would not stay at this location again."

"Whole place is dated. Room was old, and "patched up" in several places. They didn't replace towels or clean the room the whole week. We asked for housekeeping service and they came and only made the bed, and gave us a few towels. They didn't clean the bathroom, or even empty the garbage cans. The breakfast bar had no proteins, only cereals and breads. The hot tub did not get hot, and most evenings the pool and hot tub were closed well before the posted closing time. We were in town to visit our grandchildren, and were hoping to bring them back to the hotel pool. The hotel charges $30 per non registered guest for 2 hours of pool use, which is ridiculous, especially when the place was empty. The owner is quite obviously trying to save money instead of spending money to make it better to get more people to actually want to stay there. I would not stay there again. There are much better places in Shelby."

"We had a good stay at the HGI in Gastonia. Generally clean, with some signs of wear in the room, but otherwise fine. The staff was above and beyond nice and helpful at the front desk (Crystal was a standout- VERY nice!). The bartender was also nice and helpful when kids in our group wanted to order food. The lounge areas outside and in the lobby were good for adult hangouts. The ONLY things we didn't love were that the pool area was SO loud that we ended up leaving when a group of about 7 young girls came for a birthday party. The echo and noise aggravated tinnitus in a dad in our party and he had to leave immediately. Our girls also said the pool was very cold so heat would be nice, even in May. We didn't love the sliding bathroom door that didn't lock and the hotel lobby reeked of fried food nearly 24 hours a day. You couldn't be there for more than 30 seconds without smelling like it. The smell was also up in our room on the second floor so we wished we had a higher floor. Their kitchen needs much better external ventilation. All in all a good stay, but with some minor complaints."
