Service, location, friendly accommodating staff made us feel like home. Kanchanjungha views from hotel view point.. outside some rooms, dining hall, outside reception.. everywhere. Gave some suggestions and feed back to the general manager who was very appreciative of the constructive feed back. Passion of the staff to serve customers is unparalleled and trickles down from the leadership of Debarya, who seems to talk about the resort like it's his baby. Doma in dining room, authentic Nepalese cells roti made fresh was cherry on top. Will be back.
Its an extremely old and cheap property. No way worth the price they charge. Rooms are filthy and dirty with a pungent smell. The breakfast and lunch buffet is horrible. The room ceiling is only about 7 ft which makes one feel claustrophobic. Overall an extremely disappointing experience. I would not even give one star to this property. Would not recommend this to anyone. We wanted to get out from it asap.
Great place (beware of road leading to this place)
Great place to stay. The road leading to the resort is a single lane (taking u-turn is impossible and if 2 vehicles came on opposite sides it was v hard). The place itself is amazing with beautiful views including Mt. Kanchanjunga. Manager stopped by to check if everything is all right.
The experience, overall, of staying at the Sterling Darjeeling was very good. The resort has received a significant face-lift and is a much better place to stay at now. The Fitness Center and the wifi could offer an area of improvement though. In hindsight, it seems like our booking at Hotels.com mentioned the room being with Mountain View whereas actually it was not. We did not bring it up though.
Excellent service
Good food
Can take taxi to anywhere
Bad part is you cannot walk out of the hotel at all
You must always have a taxi to go wherever even into town. There is no place to even take morning walk. No garden
No heating in rooms-very cold in room

Cheap
Facility was too cold in march. Even lobby where we had to sit to be to on internet was cold and uncomfortable. No internet option in rooms. I would be happy to pay for it.
No TV channels work in the rooms. There was nothing to do in the rooms in cold weather with no internet and TV. Food can be improved. Need different menu every night and need some Punjabi dishes. We were forced to eat in the hotel every night due to limited access to outside, cold weather and limited restaurants in the city. Good food in dining hall, improved drinks in bar,TV / internet in rooms, warm lobby could have made our stay enjoyable.

Nice hotel on high altitude
Overall a pleasent experience. Could make it better by providing better toiletries.
Able to see mountain k2 from hotel clearly and surrounded by beatiful scenarios.
Hotel was not in Darjeeling centre but about 9 Km before that in a place called Ghoom. However the property was well maintained and had a contemporary look.
Our stay at the hotel was nice, check in checkout and stay was all smooth.Food cooked at the hotel was nice as well.
Only negative was that the hotel did not provide any room warmer in the standard room as i stayed there early November when its quite cold in Darjeeling.
It's not worth the price if u r not a member..the food quality is horrible both in room service and buffet..the location of the hotel is worse too...its inside a small lane where there's traffic jam all the time.overall terrible.
The towels and bedsheets were dirty. The room was freezing and the heater didn't work properly. The geezer didn't work so we had no hot water. The front desk had limited staff who worked there. There was a language barrier with some of the staff as some of them didn't speak English. The food was very oily and not tasty. However, the view was spectacular. Great view but Everything else was terrible.
The only good thing about the stay was the excellent hotel staff. They were so polite and ready to help. They just did not have the tools to do that. The inside of the rooms was really in bad shape ... needs a big makeover. The kitchenette cupboards are falling apart, the bathroom stinks all the time, the tiles are broken, the towels are treadbare and stinking, the carpet is stained all over, the beds are just ok. Its more like bare minimum hotel than a resort. The breakfast buffet was though quite good. But all over the carpets, towels, tablecloths, tiles, kitchen, walls , roofs etc need a big big maintenance.

Overall Enjoyable Stay
Overall we had a nice stay. The staff were helpful and courteous and the rooms were clean and comfortable.
Look out for the duplex cottages.
There are two sore points though:
1. The food prices are exorbitant. Since the property is detached and you do not have dining options nearby you are left with no option other than paying a hefty price for some average dishes.
2. The photo of the room posted on Expedia while making the booking was not representative of the actual room.
I spent 3 nights in the hotel in mid of March. The hotel quality is far from great but I think it is a good value for the money spent considering other hotels in the area. What was really bothering me was the insufficient heating in the room and the shower that was barely trickling. I came there after 4 days trekking in rather cold conditions and was really looking forward to a warm shower which i had to wait for almost 2 hours:-)
Overall no other complains, enjoyed a lot free breakfast and the Ghoom monastery in the vicinity.
Nice location, good view of the Kanchandejunga as you step out of the hotel. Very nice staff. Expensive but good food. Very close to Ghoom railway station.

Good room and value
Nice room - better than expected, very hot water! Good large comfy bed. Very noisy hotel in the mornings. Foyer and restaurant were very cold, we sat in winter woolies and it reminded us of a back-packers ski resort without the fire place! Food was somewhat unique for breakfast buffet and dirty table cloths, but they made a great omlette to order. Staff very helpful and friendly. Overall good value for money though location a little out of the way for Darjeeling to walk.
