"Everything at the lodge was good but could have been great with improved communication. Our family of four arrived at the same time as a group and we were offered the options to joint their tours on an expedited schedule (four days of activities in two days). We joined them for the full day Napo tour and really enjoyed the day but we were very rushed and had no idea what activity was next. At the end of the day, the four of us were left alone at the river bank for 45 minutes waiting for he bus...

"We loved it here. Such an amazing place. It’s remote, but the signage was good and our driver found it. Probably best to get there during the day. We took a chocolate making class and went on the night walk in the jungle. It is an eco resort, so don’t expect hot showers, which is usually a deal breaker for me. But the place was so nice we were very happy we stayed here. "

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Chontapunta?
The best area to stay in Chontapunta is along the Napo River, specifically in the vicinity of the main riverfront and the village centre.

This area is the heart of Chontapunta, offering easy access to the river and the local community. You'll find the main pier where canoes depart for excursions, and the village itself has a few small shops and local eateries. It's a convenient base for exploring the surrounding Amazon rainforest.

Couples looking for a romantic and adventurous getaway will find this area ideal. Many lodges here offer private cabins with river views, and you're perfectly positioned for guided jungle treks, birdwatching, and canoe trips to nearby waterfalls or indigenous communities. The natural setting provides a tranquil escape.

For families, staying near the riverfront offers educational and engaging experiences. Children will enjoy spotting wildlife from their lodge, learning about the local Kichwa culture, and participating in activities like chocolate making or night walks.
When is the best time to go to Chontapunta?
The best time to visit Chontapunta is during the dry season, which runs from December to March and then again from July to August.

During these months, you'll experience less rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the rainforest and enjoying outdoor activities. The trails will be less muddy, and river conditions will generally be more predictable for activities like rafting and kayaking. This period offers the most comfortable weather for jungle excursions.

For those interested in wildlife spotting, particularly birdwatching, the dry season can also be quite rewarding as many species are more active and visible. The clearer skies also make for better photography opportunities.

While the "green season" (April to June and September to November) sees more rain, it doesn't mean constant downpours. You can still have a fantastic trip, often with fewer visitors and lush, vibrant scenery.
Can I cancel my hotel reservation on Expedia?
You can cancel your hotel reservation on Expedia, though it depends on the cancellation policy of your booking. Most bookings are refundable if canceled within 24-48 hours of the scheduled arrival. Be sure to check your booking confirmation for the exact cancellation policy. If free cancellation is available, you can cancel directly through your Expedia account by logging in, going to "My Trips", and selecting your reservation. To find flexible deals, filter your search by "Fully refundable property" for hotels in Chontapunta.
How much is the nightly rate at a Chontapunta hotel?
Prices for hotels in Chontapunta often vary, but you can find a great deal from CA $29 on Expedia. All sorts of factors affect price, such as the time of year or the days of the week you choose for your stay. Find the best deals by being flexible with your dates, and sort search results by "Price: low to high" for the cheapest rate.
