If you're not prepared, air travel can be challenging. But don't hit the panic button just yet. Follow these handy hints for a stress-free start to your getaway in Antipaxos. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• First of all, put in your passport, travel documents, bank cards and medications. Next, you'll need some entertainment to help pass the time. A juicy book and a laptop crammed with your favourite movies are some terrific options. If you intend to take a short nap, a comfy neck pillow and some noise-cancelling headphones will also come in handy. Finally, leave space for a toothbrush and some facial wipes so you'll arrive at your destination looking and feeling fresh.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• While the list of banned items differs between airlines, the general rule to follow is nothing sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes things like screwdrivers, pocket knives, fireworks and fuel. Sports equipment like golf clubs, and items that could harm passengers, such as firearms and swords, are also banned from the cabin.

What to wear on a flight:

• Choose comfort over style. Prepare for temperature changes by layering up, and wear slightly roomy, flat footwear like sneakers.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a risk on long-haul flights. It's the result of blood clots forming due to inactivity and poor circulation, so do some gentle foot and leg exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression socks or tights.

A little pre-planning before you arrive at the airport will help make your trip to Antipaxos a breeze. Read through our useful tips for a stress-free journey through security:

• Airport security personnel first need to know that you have a valid ID and matching boarding pass before anything else. Have them ready for inspection.
• After that, both you and your hand luggage will be X-rayed. To speed things up, take off anything that might trigger the alarms. Personal belongings such as your belt, jacket and headphones will be required to go through the machine.
• Your electronic devices like phones and laptops will also need to go on a tray to be scanned. No need to worry though, you'll be back online before you know it.
• Any liquids or gels, such as shampoo or hand cream, that you want to take on board need to be in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres). They must also all fit inside a quart-size (one litre), clear zip-lock bag.
• It's also possible you'll need to take your shoes off to be X-rayed, so wearing lightweight sneakers is always a smart idea.
• Take all prohibited items out of your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp objects like a pocket knife or tools, pack them safely away in your checked luggage. They won't be allowed on board and will be confiscated.
