COTTAGE LOCATION; The cottage is in a great location in Hatchet Bay which is small town with friendly people in the upper middle part of the island which is perfect for exploring everything to the north and south. We are located 25 minutes from Governor's Harbor Airport and 35 minutes from North Eleuthera Airport. The little town has restaurants, bars, beaches and food stores you can walk to. It is very safe and friendly even for single female visitors at night. There are many other additional world class beaches and other restaurants and adventures within minutes of the cottage. It is critical to be in a great location on an island that is 110 miles long and half a mile wide, otherwise you are in for a lot of driving with some very expensive gas prices. COTTAGE DESCRIPTION; The property is situated on a stunningly beautiful 2 acre peninsula with over 500 feet of shoreline and a few other cottages yet all are private with foliage and fencing. The studio style air conditioned cottage has an awesome deck that overhangs the ocean. There is a table and chairs for al-fresco dining and two lounge chairs for lying out in the sun. You will see Eagle Rays swimming by daily and all sorts of marine life from the deck. The interior is open and bright with fabulous ocean views from the sleeping area and the kitchen window. Just keep in mind it is small studio style design with a queen bed in the sleeping area - please see our listing photos. Listening to the ocean each night as you fall asleep along with the gentle trade winds provides for some real peace and tranquility. A small inside dining table for 2 people and small, but full kitchen. The kitchen has a 4 burner gas stove with oven, kitchen sink, full size fridge, microwave, toaster, drip coffee maker and all the normal kitchen gadgets. There is a 36" flat screen TV mounted on a wall shelf with cable TV. The property has Wi-Fi, both inside the cottage an on the expansive property grounds. There are beach chairs and a charcoal grill. \*\*\*Safety note if you are traveling with small children, the deck railings run horizontal and not vertical so a small child could fit through the slats just so you are aware. See photos to see what we mean. Overall this is one of the most stunning rentals on the island with the insanely dramatic deck views all at an affordable price. SUPPORT THE LOCAL ECONOMY; Unlike the 95% of rental properties that are owned by foreigners, this property is owned by the McCardy family who are local Bahamians. So the funds you are spending goes right back into the local economy versus being wired to some foreign bank account which we think is pretty darn awesome. PETS AND SUPPORT ANIMALS: Please note we do not accept any pets, emotional, support or therapy animals due to extreme allergies/health related issues in our family. ELEUTHERA IS NOT FOR EVERYONE; If Miami Beach or Vegas is your thing we respectfully suggest you pick a different destination. Eleuthera is a sleepy island with some flaws; bad roads, dated infrastructure, there can be power / water / internet outages and the occasional gecko on the wall. The trade off is going back in time 75 years to an unspoiled gorgeous island where you will explore the most stunning beaches you have ever seen and have them usually all to yourself. The seafood is fantastically good. The people are warm and genuine, crime is very low and the vibe is super chill. We had the best time! The cottage was everything we needed. It was private, centrally located making it very easy to commute to all of Eleuthera attractions. It was everything and more from what we saw on TV. Buttonwood cottage was the perfect place to stay too. Cozy, private and centrally located to great beaches and restaurants. The town folks were friendly and accommodating. Steve our host was the best. Friendly and very knowledgeable about the Island and life the Bahamians lead. One of my favorite things to do was just sit out on the deck and stare at the unbelievable turquoise clear water right below. You just have to see it to believe it, as pictures don’t do it justice. It was perfect for my husband and me. It was centrally located, and we loved eating at The Front Porch Restaurant right outside the neighborhood. It’s quiet and I love exploring the island, Cocodimama and Popino were probably my favorite beaches. The hosts are available if you need but you also might not see them at all. They give you a pdf with lots of info, they’re quite clear about what the property is and isn’t. Sitting on the deck is just like the pictures and a short walk to access the water for great snorkeling. However, there is no shade on the deck and that limited the enjoyment to morning and evenings. Not having wifi was an issue and you had to walk up by the owners house to get connected, but this is noted in the listing. Stray dogs and some noise in the neighborhood and the location is a bit distant to any amenities. Bring your bug spray. ##### Kalen F. Perfect for two people. Nicole, the host, was very nice. We spent many hours on our deck looking at the beautiful waters. Very windy on the deck a few days but we just found some very quiet beaches to sit on instead. Daniel at Twin Brothers restaurant, which is within walking distance of the vrbo, was very accommodating and they had wonderful grouper. He even prepared the fish we caught on a reef fishing trip for us to eat. Very quiet neighborhood. The beach near our place wasn't that great but there are plenty of others that are stunning. Place was pretty much as advertised. It would have been nice to have a "seating area" other then the bed or small kitchen table. While there is a TV, the cable company is bad, so there really isn't "TV", but we really didn't miss it. Even the WIFI, which as mentioned, had to be accessed from elsewhere on the propery, was spotty at best. The owners were nice and responsive. Maybe the biggest bummer is that there was no closet or bureau, so no place to put our clothes. Very nice shower. Like I said, as advertised. You get what you pay for, as usual. ##### toby k. Hatchet Bay itself is not a touristic destination, but that's why we chose it. Quiet and laid back, nothing fancy. Many more locals than tourists--and not that many locals! Gorgeous beaches, good restaurants, etc. are a short drive away. Buttonwood Cottage is a supremely relaxing oasis, and one could do nothing but sit on the deck with its gorgeous views for hours and be happy. (Watch for the ray that swims by regularly below.) Nicole, the owner, was the perfect blend of helpfulness and unobtrusiveness. We found it no problem to sit beneath the trees near the big house and use the wifi. Although the cottage description notes there is no awning or umbrella on the deck, two beach chairs and a beach umbrella were provided, and we used the umbrella on the deck as well as on the beach.
