"Dieses Haus ist wirklich außergewöhnlich und nahezu einmalig - Angefangen von der Historie, weiterführend über die Ausstattung und den Umbau des Ruinendorfes, bis hin zu den Gastgebern, die sich unfassbar herzlich um ihre Gäste bemühen. Wir reisen wirklich sehr viel und ich habe selten so eine Gastfreundschaft erlebt, während man gleichermaßen entspannt die Ruhe genießen konnte. The villa was absolutely beautiful and spotless, and the pool quickly became the kids’ best friend throughout the holiday. The old town of Rethymno was just a 20-minute drive away. All in all, a perfect stay – Alexandros was the man with the big smile and always ready to help."

Hotel Ideon

10/10 Excellent

"Excellent hotel. Great location. Staff are super friendly. Daily breakfast was a great bonus with good food and options. Overall just a great place to stay !!! Excellent value !!!"

Grecotel LUX ME White

10/10 Excellent

"I had the immense pleasure of staying at Grecotel Lux*Me White for one week in mid-October, sharing a double room with two single beds with my 14-year-old son. To say this was quite possibly the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in would be an understatement. Amazing staff, a great location just 15 minutes from Rethymno, and a complimentary daily shuttle bus departing the hotel at 11 am and returning to pick you up at 3 pm. What more could you ask for? The hotel amenities are exceptional, from breakfast, lunch and dinner to drinks and snacks throughout the day. The staff are absolutely brilliant and spare no effort in making their guests’ stays truly memorable. I had several jaw-dropping moments during our stay, too many to list, but one that really stood out was seeing a full-sized honeycomb served at breakfast. That alone should give you a small idea of the exceptional service and experience this hotel offers. Honestly, I cannot recommend it highly enough. The highlight of the trip for me was the evening spent at the hotel’s own organic farm. Utter luxury."

The Royal Senses Resort & Spa Crete, Curio Collection Hilton

10/10 Excellent

"A fantastic hotel with an outstanding team who truly go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The attention to detail is exceptional, and every aspect of the experience is thoughtfully taken care of. From arrival to checkout, the staff make every effort to ensure you have a memorable and enjoyable stay. Their genuine hospitality and commitment to guest satisfaction really set this property apart. Highly recommended!"

Aquila Rithymna Beach

8/10 Good

"BEAUTIFUL MAINTAINED GROUNDS. FRIENDLY HELPFUL STAFF. WE HAD A PARTIAL SEA VIEW BUNGALOW - THE VIEW WAS GOOD & BUNGALOWS ARE LOCATED IN A QUITE PART OF THE RESORT. LOVED OUR BALCONY ( RM 30). MAIN CRITICISM OF THE ROOM IS THE OVER BATH SHOWER. WHOEVER PLANNED PUTTING THE TAPS IN THE CENTRE OF THE BATH AS WELL AS THE WIRE RACK & SOAP DISPENSERS HAS NEVER TRIED TO STAND TAKING A SHOWER IN THE BATH WHILST FIGHTING THE PLASTIC SHOWER SHEET - IT IS DANGEROUS . I CANNOT IMAGINE HOW HEAVIER / LARGER PEOPLE MANAGE IT!!. RECEPTION - VERY RESPONSIVE TO ANY REQUESTS IE COFFEE NOT TOPPED UP WAS QUICKLY RESOLVED. RESORT AMENITIES: POOLS BEAUTIFUL & WELL MAINTAINED. AQUA PARK GOOD FUN. BARS/RESTAURANTS: MAIN BUFFET BREAKFAST - EXCELLENT FOOD CHOICES BUT VERY BUSY. BETTER OPTION HAVE BREAKFAST IN PERGOLA SIDE - TABLES WIDER SPACED - FEELS LESS HECTIC. LOVED THE GREEK RESTAURANT / FOOD & STAFF. AL A CARTE RESTAURANT LOVELY. BEACH BAR - LOVELY DRINKS BUT UNDER STAFFED SO SERVICE CAN BE VERY VERY SLOW!!! SERVICE AT MAIN BAR POOR WHEN ON LOWER LEVEL. FAILED TO BE SERVED OUR DRINKS ON 3 OCCASIONS WHEN ORDERED DOWNSTAIRS. RESORT IS VERY CHILD FRIENDLY. WOULD I GO BACK - PERSONALLY THINK THE AI PACKAGE IS OVERPRICED AND THE ROOMS ARE NOT REALLY 5*. IN SPITE OF THIS WE REALLY ENJOYED OUR STAY"

Grecotel Plaza Beach House

10/10 Excellent

"We booked a room at the last minute. There will a little mix up upon arrival but the hotel upgraded us and bought us dinner to compensate us. Honestly, there was no need. The hotel was fabulous and the staff could not have been friendlier. The beach area was perfect and exactly what we wanted during our time in Greece. Rethymno is a lovely town and not nearly as busy as Chania, which made a huge difference. We would definitely go back to this hotel."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Aggeliana?

The best area to stay in Aggeliana is the village itself, particularly around the central square and the roads leading off it.

Aggeliana is a small, traditional Cretan village, not a bustling city, so the "best area" refers more to the heart of the community. The village is compact and centred around its main square, where you'll find the local kafenion and a mini-market. The surrounding streets are residential, featuring stone houses and olive groves, offering a genuine taste of rural Cretan life.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will find Aggeliana ideal. It's a quiet village where you can enjoy relaxed evenings and experience local hospitality. It serves as a good base for exploring the wider region of Rethymno, with its beaches and historical sites, without being in the middle of a tourist hub.

When is the best time to go to Aggeliana?

The best time to go to Aggeliana, Crete, is during the shoulder seasons of May, June, September, and early October.

During these months, you'll experience pleasant weather, with warm temperatures superb for exploring the island without the intense heat or larger crowds of mid-summer. The sea is warm enough for swimming, and you'll find all the local businesses and attractions are fully operational. This period offers a good balance of excellent weather and a more relaxed atmosphere.

For those looking to enjoy the beaches and outdoor activities, May and June are ideal. The countryside is lush, and the temperatures are comfortable for hiking or cycling. September and early October also offer lovely warm weather, and the sea remains inviting, often warmer than in early summer.

If you're interested in cultural experiences and don't mind cooler weather, April or late October can also be good. You might encounter some rain, but you'll experience a more authentic side of Cretan life with fewer tourists.
