Find the Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Trail on the edge of the Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve. At just over 1 mile (1.6 kilometers), this trail should take you around an hour to complete at a casual pace while observing the nature signs. Book a tour or explore the region at your own pace and take in the stunning natural surroundings.

Learn about the history of the area with a knowledgeable walking guide. The trail crosses the Ohlanga River and spans coastal areas, a dune forest and wetlands. Discover green monkeys and deer as you walk through the forest. Spot a wide variety of bird species including the crested guineafowl. Walk quietly and you may see a number of small creatures, including bushbuck and duiker antelopes.

See the remarkable Celtis africana, also known as the white stinkwood tree. One of these trees is believed to be about 500 years old and is a highlight of the trail. Learn about tree species along the way, as many of the grand specimens are labeled.
