Felt great staying this place
I think this was the best stay in the whole China trip for me. I enjoyed the place, shower & bath, comfortable bed, breakfast, and hospitality staff. The location was a bit distanced from the station but taxi makes a big difference to come back here. I wish Japanese restaurant was open but I enjoyed the Chinese restaurant at Sofitel as well.

awful female facilities at shared pool
Grand Mercury is a beautiful old world hotel with dark wooden decor in the rooms. We checked in easilly. I was a little disappointed to find out that all the restaurants and swimming pool were not in this hotel, they were within a complex of hotels and you had to cross the grounds to access the other hotels facilities. Eg the Italian restaurant in one restaurant and the bar and pool within the Sofitel which wasn’t great in depths of winter. The main negative therefore isn’t about this hotel but the changing rooms at Sofitel swimming pool. At first its very elegant, but when you enter female changing rooms it’s like a 1980s council provided changing room. Nowhere to hang your towel while you shower, no costume dryer, dilapidated fixtures with wallpaper mouldy and peeling. However my husband advises me the men’s was plush, had its own hot tub, sauna and massage beds. It makes one wonder about the type of establishment it is and the services provided, clearly more geared towards male travellers

We did not like that there was not a restaurant onsite except for breakfast, but the breakfast was excellent and they did have evening room service. I am in a wheelchair and there was a ramp into the hotel and easy access to the restaurant. The staff was fabulous, the room was wonderful and it is central if you are a walker.

Overall the property is good and clean. However, the disappointing part is with mosquitoes both in the lobby and rooms. Hotel Management did not make enough efforts to check and prevent the mosquito menace.

Renmin Square is nice, hotel so-so
Nice, but small rooms (we had a queen). No restaurant in this hotel - except a breakfast buffet for extra $. There are restaurants in the Renmin Square complex which has multiple hotels grouped together. Pleasant enclave.

Check In had 5 persosn from which 2 didnt do anything, even with people in line. Elite Desk is for everyone, and not only Elite Accor Members. Requested for a taxi to take us to the train station at 1:30, the front desk person ordered it when he saw me, taxi arrived at 1:55. The location is very good, the hotel needs a make up. Their biggest issue is their personnel, they need an URGENT, training.

Quiet, comfortable and friendly
The hotel is very pleasant, located in the quiet renmin square and well furnished. Staff are very helpful, breakfast is good. Room was cosy and comfortable, showing signs of age but lots of character, though a bit cold, with no thermostat to change it (weather outside was hot). TV reception was bad. Overall a very pleasant stay.

The hotel building itself is an heritage building. It's strategically located. There are plenty of shopping spots nearby the hotel. The nearest ones - SuNing is just about 400m away and the nearest bus stop is just 300m away. The staff are friendly and attentive. The janitor will arrange our toiletries in an orderly manner everyday (maybe it's too messy for her :D). I would choose to stay here again if I had the chance to visit Xi'An.

We loved our stay at the Grand Mercure on Renmin Square. Our only regret was that it was just 1 night. We took a sleeper train from Beijing to Xi'an. The train station is just blocks away from the Grand Mercure. As you exit the train station, the taxi pickups are on your right, and you would just walk straight, go under the wall and a few more blocks bring you to Renmin Square. The Sofitel is on the corner, you turn right, go through a gated entrance, and walk around the square until you get to it. We grabbed a taxi from the train station. He claimed he didn't know where the Grand Mercure was and wouldn't call anyone. He knew where the Sofitel was, so we had him take us there and they kindly directed him around the corner. No big deal. Only 20 RMB. Have the name printed in Chinese so you can just hand them that. We walked back to the train station and caught the tour bus to the Terra Cotta warriors. Do your research so you know what bus to get on. The buses are on your right as you are facing the train station. The next day, we walked to the wall and walked around on top of the wall that surrounds the old part of the city. The Grand Mercure was beautiful and clean. We had a king sized bed that was soft. The breakfast was the best we have ever had in China. It was so conveniently located for easy walking to the train station and the wall. I would and will definitely recommend this place to future travelers who want to see the warriors and walk the old wall.

We had great time there. The breakfast was excellent. But it lack of local food. It seems more customizable to westerners. The chief chef was very nice and made us special local needle dishes by himself. Very impressive.

A lovely safe haven amongst the city.
Whether it was the very calm and helpful front desk to the gorgeous rooms I was very impressed with my stay at the Grand Mecure. The front desk knew enough English to thoroughly help me, and with multiple restaurants and a great breakfast buffet it’s hard to find something not likeable to be honest. Very well done!

It’s a lovely hotel, very centrally located. The train station, the drum tower, the bell tower and the Muslim quarter are all about 20 minutes away. The hotel is very clean and comfortable. It’s located in a compound with the Sofitel so there’s several bars and restaurants to choose from.

We spent two nights here and to our pleasant surprise were upgraded to a suite! Staff were pleasant and knowledgeable about recommending tour options for the must-see terracotta warriors. Allow for at least a half day for this. There are several restaurants in the hotel compound, as well as a spa for a quick pedi! Within walking distance is the Muslim Street which is a great lunch spot with an abundance of food options. The menus do not have translation but don't be afraid to point out a dish that looks good and ask where it is on the menu. There are apps that will translate your menu when you take a picture. Just remember that you will need a vpn to access any google apps while in China. The locals are genuinely helpful and will be amused that you chose to eat locally. Picking the most popular spot ensures good food quality. Also a treat are the freshly roasted chestnuts from the street vendors! Apples were in season when we visited and were delicious! We rented bikes and toured the city wall which gives you a bird's eye view of the old city. Finishing off our trip to Xi'an was the must see Big Wild Goose Pagoda.

For the price we paid, this hotel was excellent, and the staff couldn't do enough for us, including upgrading our room when we arrived at 1am, as our first room was a smoking room and they organised a wonderful trip for us. However, the hotel is a bit tired, both style and function wise. The bedding and towels have a cooking fat smell to them, the carpets are grubby in places, and the bathrooms have cracks and mould in the grout.

Good location, short stay. Staff could learn to speak English a little more fluently if the hotel wants to increase the number of European travellers staying there. Instructions on how to turn lights off in rooms and where breakfast is served would also be advantageous to patrons.

Beyond the Façade, It’s a Dated & Broken Hotel
This hotel needs a ton of work: * key card reader didn’t work * carpet was dirty * shower leaked * old school shower curtain * dated interior * cramped room * dark * lighting system confusing * safe handle broken I would never stay here again. It is past it’s prime. When we went to us the safe, we found the decorative bed runner and pillows that someone clearly removed. I am guessing someone rented the room, saw, the condition and left. The front desk then did not have someone check and reset the room. This says a lot about their management practices. All this, and my “great” hotels.com rate was 15 dollars more than every other site was offering it for that night on the day of. It was beyond dissapointing. To the management team who will likely offer some vague apology to me as if I am some isolated crank and not the frequent traveler I am with very forgiving standards, I say just do your job.

The property is old and the room is dark even with curtains drawn and all lights turned on. I received a call in my room at 3am and the caller asked me to open my door as I ordered a massage???!!! I told off the reception staff, hung up and went back to sleep. When I complained to the front desk the next day, the manager was defensive and said no such call was made from the reception desk. Does he think all guests are fools? Who else can call direct to the room at 3am except the reception desk? I will NEVER stay there again and will seriously consider if I ever want to stay at another Accor property in future for business or holiday.

The hotel staff was great. I mostly interacted with them in Chinese, but they seemed to always have English speakers at the desk. They loaned me an umbrella when it started to rain, and called cabs for us. The hotel is a little older and showing signs of wear, but the room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. My only complaint is that the wifi was pretty bad here and the hotel seemed to block our VPN.

Not a bad choice but not excellent
There’s a mosquito inside the room that disturbed our sleep on our first night. The room itself is actually comfortable to sleep in, the bed and the temperature is good. I would say the hotel staff is helpful as well. However, do remember to lock your money, I suspect, somebody stole a couple of bank notes from me. The room could be a lot better and feel cleaner if the water from the shower doesn’t wet the washroom floor. It’s like flooding every time we come out from the shower. It is indeed walkable to Bell Tower but I guess after walking there and drum tower and Muslim quarter, you legs will be too tired to walk back to the hotel. We walked to Xi’an train station as well and take a bus from there to go to terracotta warrior. It’s doable. But don’t expect everything is short walking distance. Expect 30mins walk to train station or bell tower. China is big, one block is long.
