About this property
One Block to Library of Congress- Capitol Hill-English Basement
English basement studio of this newly rebuilt town house is in Capitol Hill Historic district. This efficiency basement room has one queen bed with one shower (full bath) and a sleeper sofa (full /almost queen bed), with all amenities you could need, including a kitchen, microwave, oven, dishwasher and washer/dryer combo. There are utensils, pots, pans, plates, knives and everything you will need in a kitchen. Hair dryer, towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, iron, ironing board are also provided. Flat screen TV and internet connection are provided too.
Located just 3 blocks from the Capitol, 4 blocks from the Supreme Court, and a little more than one block from the Library of Congress, this property is in a very safe neighborhood with easy street parking. We will provide temporary parking permit for street parking if guests give us the tag number and state of registration before arrival. The Mall, Smithsonian museums, and other popular tourist attractions are within walking distance. In addition, there are two and a half blocks of a wide variety of restaurants, bars, stores and banks just one block away from the house.
Also just moments away, guests can find bus stops and bike share station to explore the city. There are also two metro stations (Eastern Market and Capitol South) only 3 and a half and 4 blocks away. Nationals baseball park is a little more than a mile away.
We take safety seriously. There are three different kinds of carbon monoxide alarm in the basement and fire sprinkler (concealed under round plates on the ceiling). People who want to be green can rejoice as Solar panels power the house. There is a separate thermostat for the basement for you to control the temperature. Entrance is separate from the main house and has keyless lock.
Thank you very much to the guests who stayed with us and gave us nice reviews. If you need more bedrooms and bathrooms, check out Property number 920276 hosted by the same manager.

Loved staying in DC. A Librarian steps away from the Library of Congress! Family neighborhood, good vibe. Basements are not my favorite, but it felt like we were really there!.

Location and accommodations were top level!
Family of 4 loved this place this weekend.
We had walked everywhere we needed to go from this fabulous English basement and wonderful DC neighborhood!
Located in a quiet and safe neighborhood but within easy walking distance to some great restaurants and lots of DC sites (Capitol, Supreme Court, and LOC).
Nice capital hill location. Just a short walk to Capital, Supreme Court and library of congress. The neighborhood was very nice and has lots of options for food as well. Great host too!
Clean, comfortable, well stocked with breakfast food, walking distance to capital. Host is very interested in keeping guests happy.

The property manager was so responsive and was nice enough to accommodate an early check in for us. We really loved the location of this place. We had events at the capital building and it was about a 10 minute walk.
I stayed here with my son for 2 days and had a wonderful experience. The host was very responsive and helpful throughout our stay. The basement apartment was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The location is great, close to landmarks in Washington DC. Highly recommended for short stays!
Small studio walking distance to all sites. I stayed with my daughter to tour DC. The host had great communication and provided milk and eggs. I would come back here with a party of two or maybe three
Clean, well-equipped apartment within easy walking distance of major Washington sites and attractions. Safe, wonderful historic DC neighborhood. Owner was friendly, incredibly helpful, and very easy to communicate with. An ideal property for anyone interested in a DC stay for work or play.
It was a great experience. Close to restaurants and accessible walking to some of the east side monuments/places. Loved every bit of our stay. We will be back if we need to stay again. Communication was great and the host was very helpful and communicative.
Our host was attentive to details. The apartment was well stocked. The location could not have been more convenient to Capitol and the Mall and restaurants and services
We were able to walk the capital and national library of congress. The host was helpful and very informative. The bathroom was was nice and spacious. The kitchen was well stocked, good breakfast items were provided and they even had detergent available for laundry.
We enjoyed our weekend in this clean, cozy, comfortable apartment. The neighborhood is safe, quiet, close to restaurants and other attractions. We easily walked to it from Union train station upon our arrival. It is also close to the Metro station at Eastern Market. The host is very easy to communicate with and graciously allowed us early check-in. Our family lives in the neighborhood so we hope to stay here again the next time we visit!
This property was close to where we wanted to be. It had most of what we needed and the check in/communication was phenomenal. The washer/dryer does not dry your clothes just so people can be aware. But it was a comfortable place for a couple.
We loved this place! Stayed with our adult daughters for several days. Owner communication was helpful & informative. 5 minute walk to Library of Congress. Very close to a variety restaurants & shops. Very safe, beautiful neighborhood with ample street parking. Stocked with coffee, snacks, cereal, milk & eggs! Hotel room size but all the appliances of a studio apartment. Would definitely recommend and hope to come back!
We had an amazing stay at Peter's English basement! His communication was excellent from start to finish, making the entire process seamless. The space was extremely comfortable and impeccably clean—just what we needed for our trip.
The location is unbeatable! My wife and I visited for the Bruce Springsteen concert and had a blast exploring local restaurants and bars beforehand. We even enjoyed the Eagles game at Tom’s Watch Bar, which was so much fun! On concert day, we spent hours at the Wharf soaking in the atmosphere.
We can't wait to come back! Highly recommend this gem!
This was our second stay at the English Basement. Peter is an excellent host and very helpful. The place was stocked with milk, eggs, water, cereal and snacks. The AC worked well and was much appreciated during our heat-wave visit. The location is perfect for us. We walk a lot and were able to walk to a Nationals game, as well as monuments and museums. It is also close to a metro station. The neighborhood was safe and secure. We often walked home after 10 pm and never had any problems. We will definitely stay here again for our next visit to DC.
This VRBO was exactly what we needed. The Library of Congress was a quick walk away so getting to my training class was easy. The neighborhood was quiet and beautiful. We enjoyed taking walks in the afternoons to look at the historic homes. We went to many of the wonderful resturants close by. We spent two days walking to the Capital, the Smithsonians, etc... Everything was clean and cozy with plenty of coffee and snacks. Peter was clear in all of his communications and it was nice knowing we could reach out if we had any questions. This will definately be where we stay when we come back again. Thanks so much for a great experience.
This property location was amazing. Very walkable, safe and clean neighborhood. We felt very safe walking home at night and leaving our car on the street. The apartment was clean and well stocked. There were even a dozen eggs, a gallon of milk and cereal for us to enjoy. The host, Peter, went above and beyond. He informed us when we had to move our car for street cleaning and checked in on us to see if we needed anything, he even sent us a message that a storm was coming! The apartment is small but clean and comfortable. It was perfect for our family as we just needed a place to sleep and make dinners and wash clothes as needed. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Cute, small studio apartment two blocks from the Library of Congress, so walking distance to all main sites in DC. Trader Joes, Eastern Market, restaurants, and metro stations all within 1/2-mile walk. Neighborhood felt very safe, even at night.
Studio is well equipped w/everything needed to cook meals. Peter had eggs, milk, cereal, snacks, and various spices stocked too so check in first before heading to the store.
Blinds and shades do not provide total coverage from the outside lights at night and the fridge has a continuous light on the water dispenser. If kids are staying upstairs, the running around can be heard above you. None of these bothered us but was just an observation.
Peter was prompt with messaging and checking in with our stay.
A perfect place for two - we highly recommend this apartment and will stay here again when we return to DC.
The location of this Vrbo is great for anything within walking distance of Capitol Hill. I rented this basement apartment for a short notice trip to DC, primarily for the price and location. The steps down to the only entrance were awkward and may be difficult if one is challenged by stairs. This place was SMALL but adequate for a single person on a short trip. The bed, kitchen, dining table were all located in the 300ish sq. ft. room with a tiny bathroom attached. The shower was as big as the other part of the bathroom. The bed was located at the foot of the basement stairs, which were "closed" by something that looked like cardboard. The ceiling was covered by foam squares that appeared to be for sound deadening. They may have helped with voices or television sounds, but I heard every step of the two in the room above. Thankfully they stopped walking at a reasonable hour. The kitchen was surprisingly well stocked. A few dozen eggs, coffee, snacks, etc. was a pleasant surprise even though I had purchased some groceries.Communication with the owner was very good. No complaints there. Location was perfect for what I needed. Neighborhood seemed relatively safe. I was very luck being able to park just a few doors down, but I don't think you could expect that. In the end, it served its purpose. I won't rent this place if travelling to DC again. A hotel would be better but were near triple regular price due to a historic event in that time period.
