Loud flute and tabla music played in the small dining room every night. Initially entertaining, but annoying afterwards. Too many Namastes from everyone makes it look artificial - loses the natural interaction with staff. Small bar area, small dining rooms, limited food choices. Luxury with dents. Lack of communication and coordination between staff.

Nice hotel - we were there during a busy holiday so price was no doubt a bit higher but good location, walkable to many areas and the river. Staff was really nice. Room was clean. Only slight downsides were the sandals in the room were clearly used but they provided daily paper slippers. Also, bathroom design is a bit funny where you walk through the shower area to get to the toilet and sink. Thus, after a shower, you have to walk through a wet floor and also the sink/toilet area gets wet. But,...

A haven from street chaos. Very clean and efficiently run. A good shower, decent restaurant and breakfast buffet. Helpful, cheerful staff. Walking distance to the ghats. I'd sta there again.

The best area to stay in Varanasi is near the ghats along the Ganges River, particularly in areas like Assi Ghat or closer to Dashashwamedh Ghat.
Assi Ghat is located at the southern end of the main ghats and offers a slightly more relaxed atmosphere. It's known for its early morning ceremonies and evening aarti (worship) rituals, which are less crowded than those at Dashashwamedh Ghat. The area around Assi Ghat has a good selection of hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants, many with rooftop views of the river. It's a great spot for couples seeking a peaceful yet authentic experience.
For travellers who want to be right in the thick of the action, staying near Dashashwamedh Ghat is ideal. This is the most famous and busiest ghat, known for its grand Ganga Aarti ceremony every evening. The narrow lanes leading to Dashashwamedh Ghat are bustling with activity, shops, and food stalls.

When is the best time to go to Varanasi?
The best time to go to Varanasi is typically between October and March.
During these months, the weather is most pleasant, with cooler temperatures and less humidity, making it ideal for sightseeing and exploring the city's many ghats along the Ganges River. The average daytime temperatures hover around 20-25°C, providing comfortable conditions for walking tours and boat rides. This period also largely avoids the monsoon season, which runs from July to September and can bring heavy rainfall and increased river levels.
Couples looking for a comfortable and culturally rich experience will find these months particularly appealing. The cooler weather allows for extended exploration of the narrow lanes, ancient temples, and vibrant markets without the discomfort of intense heat. You'll also find it easier to attend the evening Ganga Aarti ceremony, a spectacular spiritual ritual held daily at Dashashwamedh Ghat.
Solo travellers seeking a deeper connection with the city's spiritual side will also appreciate this window. The comfortable climate makes it easier to spend time by the river, observe local life, and participate in yoga or meditation sessions, which are widely available.
