When is the best time to go to Turtle Lake?

The best time to visit Turtle Lake is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is warm and all outdoor activities are fully available. During this period, the lake is superb for swimming, paddleboarding, and kayaking, with average temperatures in the mid-20s Celsius. The surrounding hiking and biking trails, including the popular Lakeside Loop Trail, are also in prime condition, offering stunning views of the lake and mountains. It's an excellent time for families looking to enjoy a range of outdoor adventures together. For those who prefer a quieter experience with cooler temperatures and beautiful autumn colours, September and early October are also wonderful. While the water might be a bit chilly for swimming, it's ideal for hiking and enjoying the scenic beauty without the peak summer crowds.

Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Durango

8/10 Good

"Surprisingly not too bad for a cheap hotel. Will stay here again."

Durango Lodge

10/10 Excellent

"The breakfast and pool/hot tub were best i've ever experienced!!! Very clean and cozy. Perfect location and staff were very helpful. My only negative note would be it was a bit expensive for my budget, but I think it was definitely worth the splurge because I had a much better experience here than large chain hotels."

The General Palmer Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"The general palmer was a beautiful stay! We were booked in the building next to the main building and the only access to those rooms were by stairs. This wasn't a big deal for us but if you're planning on staying I would let the helpful staff know ahead of time if you will need an elevator. The small buffet breakfast was absolutely amazing! It filled our bellies before our train ride. 10 out of 10 will book again!"
