9.2/10 Wonderful! (125 reviews)
We only stayed one night. We chose Posado Río Celeste La Amistad to swim in the blue Rio Celeste River on their property. This was the perfect place to get a $ 5 USD-a-piece ticket within walking distance of the hotel. It's family-owned, and they take such pride in their establishment. We were upgraded to the Superior Cabin, which is very spacious and quiet. The abuela (grandma) took us on a night walk to see many frogs in the garden. There were several dogs and cats, and a talking parrot, on the property, in addition to hummingbirds and other beautiful birds. Breakfast is included and delicious. No air, but plenty of fans. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a rustic, eco-friendly stay. Make sure you speak Spanish or have a phone translator, as the family speaks Spanish.

8.4/10 Very good! (240 reviews)
My family and I had a great stay here! JP and his associates welcomed us and made us feel at home. Complimentary breakfast was great and the other meals were delicious. The room itself was great given you are in the jungle, so there was no a/c and typical sugar ants but nothing unexpected. The pool and the views were gorgeous. The hot tub was down while we were there but it wasn’t missed. We took advantage of the Lake Tour and La Tia’s massage services which were both worth the money. We traveled to La Fortuna and used a shuttle service that picked us up right from the hotel. Overall, we would definitely stay here again!

9/10 Wonderful! (47 reviews)
My 2 kids (9yo, 11yo) and I went to Rancho Margot for 5 days seeking an immersive experience at a sustainable working farm in the rainforest, near Arenal. It’s about 30 min from La Fortuna. And we got it! We loved it. We experienced what a circular economy looks like, and how it can work.
We enjoyed their fascinating workshops on how to make soap, chocolate, and cheese (queso fresco). We swam in their lovely pool. We also did zip lining and thermal springs off-site.
Their food is so good and fresh and healthy and grown on the farm, or locally sourced. Breakfast is included. Lunch and dinner can be purchased their which we HIGHLY recommend.
More importantly, we made friends for life.
If you choose Rancho Margot, you must manage expectations:
- There will be a few bugs in your room.
- There will be mosquitos so buy natural repellants with eucalyptus oil, and then learn how to crush the farm’s citronella leaves to then apply the oil on your skin - it works! We found out like a day too late LOL).
- It does rain quite a bit.
- It is warm and can be humid.
- Things can stay damp.
- Rooms are made from lovely wood and have what you need but there is no TV or ac. There is WiFi.
- They will show you how to use the thick curtains to sleep at night and can provide mosquito nets upon request.
This is NOT a resort or an American style hotel if that is what you want or seek.
This is a working farm that is energy self-sufficient, fed by almost pure water.
It is a treasure.

7/10 Good! (2 reviews)
We wanted to book somewhere in the middle of nowhere and this was what we booked. What a stunning view of the surrounding area and the night sky was something I hope I can remember forever. The lodge was what you can expect for the price, certainly adequate enough and breakfast was more than enough and was included too. We arrived just before the season start and I think there’s an image of the jacuzzi but don’t expect it to be operational, no big deal. Have a walk around the local area, there’s not too far to go but breathtaking views all around. Don’t expect anything more than a lodge with basic facilities which are clean and adequate. The down side…… it’s in the middle of nowhere…. The drive in scared all of us and took all my concentration and 32 years of driving experience which probably didn’t include the steep inclines on gravelly terrain but we made it…. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get there before it gets dark…. I’d suggest get there at least two hours before sunset and enjoy the sunset views from the balcony of the “jacuzzi” area. Even with the knowledge of the drive experience we had I’d still go again….. the roads really were awful…. But the stay was worth it!!
Also the guy who see us in, sorry I don’t recall your name, was very friendly and helpful and delivered our breakfast to our lodge in the morning. Excellent stay
