"Booked this hotel thru Expedia and got a very good price. It is just around the corner from the Hartford train and bus stations so it's wonderfully convenient. Just a few issues - First, the front door on Asylum Street is locked, with no sign to tell folks to walk around to the side entrance. Second - when we opened the door to our room, we found that IT HAD NOT BEEN CLEANED after the previous guests checked out - bed not made, used towels all over the bathroom (!) The clerk apologized and gave us another room - mistakes are made, but this was so dumb! Third - the bathroom faucets had crud on them (not just tarnish, but some gunk that could have been scrubbed off). Fourth - nice breakfast room, but no packets of half & half for coffee, only those flavored Coffee Mate thingies; there was 2% milk in the fridge for cereal, but this was almost gone; instead of scrambled eggs they had these rubbery egg disks. Despite my 3-star rating, I would still stay at the Capitol because of the convenient location."

"I was pretty surprised at how clean, walkable and nice west Hartford was. Easy to find a spot for dinner nearby. The hotel and staff are great. It’s more expensive but this is a case of getting what I paid for. I have zero complaints about my stay"

"We had a lovely stay! There was plenty of room for our group, we enjoyed the beautiful view of the golf course, and we were only 10 min away from the shops and restaurants. "

"The host was welcoming and gave ideas of things to do in the area. However, the oven door was broken and didn’t close all the way. Having severe food allergies, we used the kitchen for every meal and it made it a little difficult to cook with. When I messaged her she said she was aware of it but did not provide that information before we booked. We also never heard from her the day of checkout. I sent her a text message, left a voicemail and a message on the Vrbo app, all of which were never responded to. Overall a good stay, just hope there was nothing extra we were supposed to do at checkout besides taking out the trash, doing the dishes and making the bed. We brought our own bedding and towels due to my allergies with smells/detergents. "

"We were put in a lodging that wasn’t the one we rented. We had no hot water and the owner wouldn’t fix so VRBO moved us to a hotel. Terrible. We have asked for a refund but have gotten no response from VRBO. As far as I am concerned this is fraud. "

"This property, although spacious, is not really up to modern standards. We checked in several hours after the check in time and found the property was still being cleaned. While I appreciate things can come up, lack of any heads-up from the host was disappointing. The trash bins outside were full from previous guests. One of the units had no silverware or adequate pots/pans. Some of the window blinds were falling off, and there were some other damages which were aesthetically really unappealing. Linens, pillows, blankets etc are not the best quality (or even good quality).The property is not centrally heated but instead has individual units which take quite a while to spread the heat throughout the house. We checked in when the temperature was 10 degrees below freezing and spent a few hours shivering especially when not sitting right in front of the hot air coming from the wall units. There was significant ice accumulation around the property including driveway, which made walking very dangerous. I asked the host about that and they told us that it was guest’s responsibility to clean that (which is in violation of CT state law for short-term rentals which require hosts to ensure safe conditions for guests, especially when notified of things such as icy walkways).Overall, while the space has the potential to be a great spot for large group, it requires quite a few changes to ensure positive experience for guests.
