Our host Chiara was really friendly and very well meaning, however much of the time the only staff member was a pleasant overseas hospitality intern who had limited local knowledge.
The water was turned off by the government due to water shortages, and it would be expected that guests would be notified. Instead we had to struggle to find anyone to ask, it appeared some rooms had access to tank water, others not. No shower till the next day.
The 'rich' continental breakfast was ok, bland cheese, hard boiled eggs, supermarket pastries, a very crowded, over furnished room with guests awkwardly bumping into each other.
Our room, a suite, was dark, stuffy, under lit and over furnished. The bathroom was accessed from outside the room in a public space. We had to keep it locked so that other guests wouldn't use it, fumbling with old fashioned keys in the middle of the night.
It was frustrating that there did not seem to be any cafes, restaurants or shops nearby. There was no local map available pointing out local sights and amenities.
It was a great relief after 3 nights to move into a room in Valetta that was light bright, airy and convenient
Chiara tried very hard to be helpful when she was there, but it all seemed a little out of control.
