SanSal Boutique Hotel – Adults & Children 11+

10/10 Excellent

"Loved my stay here! Quiet location, perfectly situated just a few minutes walk from Chania Old Town and near a beach. The staff are lovely and very helpful, showing great Greek hospitality day or night. Their local knowledge was invaluable. The rooms are modern, kept very clean and spacious. Ours had a view of the sea and a big balcony. The bathroom had a large tub and a walk-in shower, with two sinks!"

Morum City Hotel Chania

10/10 Excellent

"I had a wonderful stay at Morum City Hotel! I was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a Junior Studio Suite with a huge balcony, which was wonderful for sitting outside in the evenings with friends. The staff were fantastic, from the front desk to the housekeeping team. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The breakfast was good, and the location was excellent, with an easy walk down to the harbour. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended!"

Hyperion City Hotel

8/10 Good

"The room was clean, peaceful, modern, and luxurious. It had a large balcony with a view of the sea. The pool seemed to be always in the shade, surrounded by buildings so we didn’t use it as we were there in October. The breakfast was good with many options. The hotel is close to the seaside walkway to access restaurants and shops. 20 minute walk to the central bus station."

Atlantica Amalthia Beach Hotel – Adults only

10/10 Excellent

"This was our second visit to Atlantica Amalthia. Very nice hotel. Everywhere was very clean, our room was a good size (we had a room in the building on the beach side) with nice balcony. Nice bar and restaurant. Breakfast room was nice and good choice of food. Very well kept beach. All of the staff were first class. So friendly, polite and extremely helpful. Visited the spa and had two massages during my stay and both were very nice and relaxing. Definitely recommend. Reasonable price. Didn't use the pool as it got busy very quickly. Sunbeds were very close together and not positioned well that you could get the sun all day. Whilst I enjoy swimming in a pool, we chose to stay on the beach each day. Good location with plenty of restaurants nearby. Recommend Sebastien next door. Absolute gem of a hotel and would definitely recommend it."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Skafi?

The best area to stay in Skafi is the main village itself, especially for those seeking convenience and a central location for exploring.

The main village of Skafi is built around the central square, Plateia Skafi, which is the heart of local life. Here, you'll find a selection of tavernas serving traditional Cretan food, a few local shops for essentials, and often a kafenion where locals gather. The village is compact and easily walkable, with narrow streets and traditional stone houses leading off from the square.

For couples looking for a relaxing and authentic experience, staying in the main village is ideal. You're within easy reach of all the local amenities, allowing you to enjoy leisurely evenings without needing to drive. Many accommodations offer balconies with views of the surrounding mountains or valleys, superb for enjoying a quiet morning coffee.

Families with older children might also find the main village suitable, particularly if they appreciate being close to dining options and the gentle rhythm of village life. The central square provides a natural meeting point, and the local tavernas are very welcoming.

When is the best time to go to Skafi?

The best time to visit Skafi is during the shoulder seasons of May, early June, or September, when the weather is pleasantly warm and the crowds are thinner.

During these months, the temperatures are ideal for exploring the region's natural beauty, such as the nearby Samaria Gorge, without the intense heat of mid-summer. You'll find the walking trails more comfortable and the beaches less crowded, offering a more relaxed experience.

Families travelling with younger children often find May or September particularly appealing. The sea is warm enough for swimming, and the quieter atmosphere makes for a more relaxed holiday. Many local tavernas and shops are fully open, but you won't be jostling for space.

For couples seeking a romantic getaway, early June is a superb choice. The wildflowers are in bloom, adding to the scenic beauty, and the evenings are great for enjoying a meal outdoors.
