The best time to visit Shaktoolik is during the summer months, from late June to early August, when the weather is mildest and outdoor activities are most accessible.During this period, temperatures typically range from 10°C to 20°C, and there are long daylight hours, often with 20 or more hours of daylight, allowing for extended exploration. This is an ideal time for travellers who enjoy nature and wildlife, as the tundra is in full bloom, and migratory birds are abundant. It's also the best time for fishing and experiencing the local culture without the harsh cold of winter. For those interested in experiencing the unique winter landscape and aurora borealis, late February to early March offers a colder, but potentially spectacular, alternative. While temperatures can drop significantly, this period often coincides with clearer skies, increasing the chances of seeing the Northern Lights.
