"Viajé a Oaxaca por un tema de salud y, aunque no fue el motivo ideal para viajar, la estancia terminó siendo mucho más agradable de lo que esperaba. El lugar era tranquilo y cómodo, justo lo que necesitaba para descansar y despejarme un poco. Lo que más disfruté fue la vista nocturna de la ciudad, ¡ver todas las luces desde ahí fue realmente bonito! Me ayudó a relajarme y a sobrellevar mejor esos días. Sin duda, me quedo con un bonito recuerdo y volvería con mucho gusto."

"The most beautiful properties I’ve ever stayed up. There’s no reason to leave the resort. Everything you need is here. Very clean, the food is good, I loved the pool pools, the gym and the exercise room! And the actual hotel room was just amazing. The staff was also very kind and friendly. I highly recommend."

"Excellent gem of a find in the Reforma area of Oaxaca City. Great value, very secure, nice pool area, modern room and comfortable bed, walkable to lots of food options, and has private and secure parking. "

"Great staff, the property could use an upgrade—or at least the room I was in. Carpet and furniture were older. Restaurant and staff there were outstanding."

Perfect for our needs. Super close the airport and a quick taxi drive to the renowned Alfonsina, where we had our final dinner in the beautiful city. The staff were very helpful and kind. Rated 4 out of 5 for the amenities but we honestly didn't need to use much besides the room. Bed was comfy, room was cool and quiet enough, and the bathroom was well-stocked with toiletries. Overall a really nice stay!

Clean rooms, helpful staff, front desk spoke English, and restaurant staff were more than happy to find someone who did if we were having issues communicating. Food was good, pool was clean, very quiet hotel, which is exactly what we were looking for. The pool became more lively in the evenings with kids, but they were respectful and it was always quiet by night time.

The property was nice and clean.
The hotel advertised an airport shuttle on Expedia but didn’t respond to my request via app to book the shuttle so I had to call them and they said they did not in fact have a shuttle. I’m an elderly woman travelling solo so I was really nervous to arrive at the Oaxaca airport in case taxis were unsafe, as I’ve experienced in other countries. Fortunately it was OK but I would have chosen a hotel with a shuttle and avoided the stress if I hadn’t been misinformed.

Staff work very hard here to make guests comfortable. Free breakfast was very tasty. If you come here just make sure it's not earlier than the check in time because we arrived at 2:30 but they wouldn't let us go to our room.

truly unique boutique hotel. tiny infill into the Oaxacan urban setting. very well done. Only issue may be street sounds as the hotel is quite open to the street (when we stayed the street was closed off so silent)

Such a beautiful, quainted little place! The location is perfect, the rooms comfortable. We stayed three nights and loved it. The customer service is excellent. The only thing is the bathroom could use a more ventilation, due to the nature of dry bathrooms, ventilation is essential for this kind of bathrooms to be effective against odours.
Overall a very good experience, we'd stay again.

What is the best area to stay in Santa María Guelacé?
The best area to stay in Santa María Guelacé is within the central village itself, particularly around the main square and the church of Santa María de la Asunción.
This area offers a genuine insight into local life. You'll find a few guesthouses and traditional homes available for short-term stays, often providing a more personal experience than a standard hotel. The village is small and walkable, with the sounds of daily life, such as roosters crowing and church bells, being a regular feature. The main square is a focal point for markets and community gatherings.
Couples looking for a unique cultural experience will appreciate staying here. It's a peaceful retreat from the busier city of Oaxaca, offering a chance to connect with local traditions and enjoy the slower pace of village life. You can explore the local crafts, particularly the production of mezcal and traditional pottery, often directly from the artisans' workshops.
For those interested in local crafts and cuisine, staying within the village provides direct access to workshops and eateries. You can participate in cooking classes or mezcal tastings, which are often organised by local hosts.
When is the best time to go to Santa María Guelacé?
For most travellers, the best time to visit Santa María Guelacé is during the dry season, which runs from October to May.
During these months, you'll experience pleasant, warm days with clear skies and very little rain. This makes it ideal for exploring the village, visiting nearby archaeological sites, and enjoying outdoor activities comfortably. The evenings are generally mild, great for dining outdoors.
Couples often find the period from November to February particularly appealing. The weather is at its most agreeable, and the cooler evenings create a lovely setting for romantic dinners and strolls. It's also a good time to experience local festivals without the intensity of the summer heat.
Solo travellers might prefer visiting in October or May. These shoulder months still offer excellent weather but with fewer crowds, potentially leading to a more relaxed experience and easier access to popular attractions.
