This is a basic motel 6. The staff were very friendly though and helpful. They had a new self check in machine that didnt work correctly and the staff had to help.

This isn't a bad property for the price. Here are the good things: very close to the beach, very close to the airport, very close to a lot of restaurants and shops, very quiet at night, very comfortable beds and pillows. Here are the things that weren't so great: the air conditioner wasn't fabulous and it was fairly loud, no elevator to get to the second floor , the parking was not that great when the hotel is full and we had to park in another businesses parking lot overnight, there's no bath mat in the shower and it is super slippery, no coffee maker in the room, very cramped. Depending on the purpose of your trip, not a bad place to stay.

UCSB graduation had made all the hotel rooms in town insanely expensive and I just needed a basic room for the night, so I had low expectations and just needed a clean bed. The room was clean and fine, albeit small. The bathroom had a shutter door that opened to the room, and didn't have a lock...which was fine for me, but would have been weird if it was a mixed group or four people. The property used a remote/semi automated system for check in, which felt very impersonal and off-putting. There was a live person on the tele/remote side of a kiosk, which had a scanner (like @ TSA) to scan my license for check in. I didn't see any staff in the office or around the property. It worked, so yay for automation, but taking the human out of hospitality isn't a recipe for success.

Upon arrival, a manager was yelling at a staff member at the front desk about his poor job performance. Despite me standing there for a few minutes - he did not stop berating the employee and I chose to leave the lobby until he stopped. It made the whole place feel unsafe for me and my daughter. Parking was easy, the pool looked nice though it wasn't swimming weather. Our room was generally clean, but walls and other deep cleaning spots were dirty. In retrospect, I would have paid more for a different place - hotel and motel rates are high in this area, thus our choice, but would not return here.

Overall 4.8 stars. The minor deductions are for noise. The room (110), A/C unit is a little noisy. The bathroom fan is louder than a home fan. Neither of these kept us awake or from enjoying our stay. The young lady on the evening shift (9pm) was super nice and helpful when we checked in. Room was clean and comfortable. There was a slight odor of cigarette smoke on the pillow cases. I’m very sensitive to cigarette smoke. Most people might not pick it up. I would stay again.
