The best area to stay in San Massimo is the historic centre, known locally as "Centro Storico."This area is the heart of San Massimo, located on a hillside overlooking the Ligurian Sea. It's characterised by narrow, cobblestone lanes, pastel-coloured buildings, and small piazzas. The main pedestrian thoroughfare, Via Roma, is where you'll find most of the local shops, cafes, and trattorias. From here, you can easily walk to the Chiesa di San Massimo, a prominent local landmark.Couples looking for a romantic and authentic Italian experience will find Centro Storico ideal. The intimate setting of the pedestrianised streets, the opportunity to dine al fresco in historic squares, and the stunning sea views from many viewpoints create a memorable stay. You'll enjoy leisurely strolls, discovering hidden gems around every corner. For families, staying slightly outside the immediate Centro Storico, perhaps in the areas just below, can offer more spacious accommodation options while still being within a short walk of the main attractions. These areas often have properties with small gardens or terraces, providing a bit more room for children to play.

The best times to visit San Massimo are during the shoulder seasons of May, June, September, and early October, avoiding the peak summer crowds while still enjoying pleasant weather.During these months, the weather is typically warm and sunny without being excessively hot, making it ideal for exploring the Ligurian coastline and its charming villages. You'll find fewer tourists compared to July and August, allowing for a more relaxed experience at popular attractions and local restaurants. The sea is also warm enough for swimming during these periods.Couples often find these months superb for a romantic getaway. The less crowded beaches and coastal paths offer a more intimate setting for strolls and leisurely meals. Many hotels and restaurants still operate at full capacity but with a more relaxed pace, ensuring excellent service and availability.Families travelling with younger children will also appreciate the shoulder seasons. The milder temperatures are more comfortable for little ones, and the reduced crowds mean less waiting and more space to enjoy the beaches and playgrounds.
