We are constantly updating this Property, We will add more Photos as we finish upgrades. some of the upgrades for this year so far are, new roof, new furniture, new fridge and some wall arts, new beds & bedding, private pool. This comfortable and appealing holiday rental home located in the dunes of Salvo, Hatteras Island, is sure to please with its unique character and appeal. Wireless internet access is supplied to keep you in touch, that is if you want to. The first level of Family Affair is complete with laundry facilities, great room with an eat-in kitchen, living area with sofa bed, and King bedroom with a full bath. Outside on the first level outdoor space is even a convenient picnic table for the family to adore a meal. The second level has two bedrooms and one bath. 1 bedroom with queen bed and other with 2 bunk beds(full over twin and twin over twin). For a little experience, climb the two ladder-like stairways up to the enormous rooftop outdoor space for sea and sound vistas of Hatteras Island. Don't forget to get up early one day with your camera to see one of the most handsome sights around, sunrise vistas from the rooftop outdoor space will amaze you and make a lifetime memory. Family Affair is a holiday rental home on Hatteras Island that will bring your family together and create lasting memories. Lots of restaurants and stores close by. Enjoy the great food and amazing sunsets at Good Winds Restaurant on the sound, or let your hair down and enjoy Karaoke at String wrays on Thursday nights. Boat and kayak rentals are right up the street. Dollar General and Waves Market and Deli are great places to pick up groceries, they also make great breakfast and lunch sandwiches! This house has SlingTV which will have about 100 live channels and on-demand contents. Due to COVID, We are taking extra precautions to properly disinfect the rental. Here below are steps taken. Expect our homes will be clean, sanitized, safe and that we are adhering to CDC regulations. Here is our protocol for each department. • Housekeeping Protocol: ◦ Housekeepers wear masks and disposable gloves when cleaning and disinfecting items and surfaces. Gloves will be discarded after each cleaning and cleaners will wash hands immediately in warm soapy water for 20 seconds after gloves are removed ◦ We use EPA-registered hospital grade disinfectants that provide CDC recommended antimicrobial chemicals – We provide all housekeepers with these chemicals ◦ Housekeepers will be focusing additional attention on high-touch surfaces, including but not limited to: doorknobs, elevator buttons, keyless entry pad, TV remotes, light switches, stair handrails, cabinet drawer pulls, appliance handles such as fridge, microwave, & oven, laundry machines, washer/dryer knobs, and thermostats. All hard surfaces, kitchens, and bathrooms will be thoroughly sanitized ◦ Housekeeper will use disposable cloths, sponges and mop heads for each home. Vacuum cleaners will remain in the house and will be emptied after each use ◦ All windows and slider doors will be open while cleaning and left open to remove and disperse the droplets and reduce the amount of virus in the air – which will reduce the risk of infection for others ◦ Beds will be made with freshly laundered sheets and pillowcases. Pillows, mattress pads, and comforters will be misted with sanitizing product ◦ Supervisors will follow cleaners with a spray to ensure all surfaces have been correctly sanitized ◦ We will have no more than two cleaners in a home and family members only • Laundry Protocol: ◦ All bed linen, pillow cases, towels, and etc. are laundered at our facility in commercial washers and dryers at high temperature to help kill coronavirus. ◦ All Laundry staff wear masks and disposable gloves when cleaning and disinfecting items or surfaces. Gloves will be discarded after each handling of a load and the laundry attendant will wash hands immediately in warm soapy water for 20 seconds after gloves are removed. ◦ While transferring items from the bin to the washer, our team has been trained not to shake the laundry, which could disperse the virus through the air, according to the CDC. ◦ Sanitizer is also used between each folding task to keep all surfaces clean. ◦ After the dirty laundry is placed in the washer, our staff disinfects the surfaces in the laundry area such as the knobs and the door pull on the washing machine and dryer. ◦ Laundry bins that hold dirty and clean laundry are kept separated and washed between uses with bleach or other EPA – registered disinfectants. ◦ Once linens are bagged by laundry staff, it is placed on the porch for pick up at a certain time and cleaners will pick up bags and all supplies one at a time. ◦ Housekeepers will return the laundry bag at the end of the day and it will be washed and ready for the next turn day. The home, however, was mold-ridden, musty, and in poor repair. We learned from a maintenance worker that the upstairs tub had been flooded by previous tenants and ran through to the downstairs bathroom and bedroom. I reached out to the property owner to see if an air purifier could be provided and got no response. The advertised beach chairs and wagon were rusty, broken and not usable. The area around the pool was littered with weeds and old cigarette butts. The experience was overall very disappointing and will not return to this property due to the mold problem and lack of upkeep to the home and property. The upstairs shower leaked to the master bedroom below. We messaged the owner, he sent the property manager and plumber over and we just stopped using the upstairs bathroom. When we were leaving we noticed that the kitchen sink was leaking below. Other than this the place was good but don't expect anything extravagant except the stereo which was awesome! Property was as described and pictured. Classic beach/lake house vibe. Plenty of kitchen utensils and appliances. New towels. Great pool with plenty of loungers. There is a very short walk over thru the dunes to the beach, right behind the house, the beach is very quiet and clean, lots of wildlife, crabs, birds....We visited some other beaches further north and this one was much cleaner and much less crowded. Maybe one group of people every 300-400 yards, so much space. This is right before the official season begins, would guess the neighborhood was maybe half occupied There were a couple of broken chairs on the rooftop, we laid down a blanket on the rooftop as we didn't feel comfortable moving the furniture to the top deck. Loved watching the sunrise and stargazing from the top deck and afternoons spent in the shade of the house in the pool. Bedding needs updating and dishes needed cleaned off before use, maybe first stay of the season. We thought it was a great location for visiting the Outer Banks and we thoroughly enjoyed the stay. We would stay again. The property has great potential, but has not been maintained. The pool was fantastic, but was surrounded by weeds and included a pile of broken and rusted pool toys. The pool loungers(3) were all broken and unusable. It was nice to have direct access to the beach, a short walk over the dunes for a day in the sand. However, the fence door was not secure and with a dog and small child, this was a concern. The host was informed and was responsive, but the issue was not resolved. The house itself worked out great for our group with plenty of room to spread out inside and out. It could have been cleaner(walls and floors) and just needed more attention to details like clogged bathtubs and broken blinds. With a little effort, this property could easily be a 5\. ##### Tara P. The interior is nothing fancy but clean and functional - actually nicer than what we saw in the pictures provided. It's clear that the owners are invested in keeping the house updated and were responsive to questions we had during hour trip. Overall, it was an excellent house to spend the week. And we loved the pool tho it wasn't heated, but one warm day it was tolerable. While we were fans of the house, the furnishings seemed haphazard and convenient. The furniture doesn't fit the house and the linens were of poor quality(think cheap hotel). But we liked the layout and design of the house.and the decks! I wish there had been a table and more visit-friendly chair sets on the many decks. We were able to cook no problems. There was no extra anything tho, not paper towels or toilet paper or trash bags. The hand soaps were nearly empty and no dish liquid or powder/pods. Not even salt and pepper. Some kitchen towels would have been nice also. I sound as if i am complaining however i can honestly say we enjoyed our time here and would stay again. Just want the owners to know it could be even better! One last thing- when we arrived, we found and envelope asking for a gratuity from the cleaner. I leave a tip for outstanding service. This was not. There was trash behind the nightstand, which i left, and there are crumbs in the silverware holder. Just doing a few things could make this house into a more comfortable home. ##### Michelle H. Property owner is making many efforts to improve this property. If you’re not familiar with the dune situation in OBX be prepared for crossing to be a challenge, not a reflection of the property owner just something I wasn’t quite ready for. The house is located on the beach with a beautiful pool in Salvo, NC. The house is spacious with three bed rooms, two bathrooms and a full kitchen. The house was very comfortable and this is probably the first vrbo I have rented that actually had decent TV service and reception (Thank you). The pool felt wonderful and clean and well kept. The beach was beautiful and not crowded. I enjoyed greatly being able to wake up and walk out through the dunes to watch the sunrise. In the same breath I was able to catch some amazing lightning from the storms which luckily rolled through in the evenings and overnight. There was great communication with the owners or rental management as they were truly wanting to make sure we had no issues with the house. I truly appreciate their concern on my behalf. The only thing I would suggest to future renters (no fault of the property/owners) grab your milk and eggs and other necessities before getting to the property. There is a run on those items with everyone else coming to their vacation rentals. The closest grocery is 20 min. South in Avon. ##### Colleen C. In the morning we would take the short walk over the dunes and spend the morning on the non-crowded, dog friendly beach. Since it was a short walk, we would leave our stuff on the beach and come back to the house for lunch. After we had enough beach time, we came back to hose off in the outdoor shower and enjoyed the pool. The pool was awesome, a great size and blocked from the wind! The pool has a large enclosed area which was great for our dogs to enjoy. There is a nice deck, which gets shade in the afternoons, so it was great for eating dinner and relaxing outside. The neighborhood is quiet and the road is suitable for walking the dogs or taking the baby for a stroller ride. Two streets away is a bike path and an ice cream shop. Overall the house was well set up, spacious, and clean. We would definitely return. Thanks! ##### Janessa W. This is our second consecutive stay at Family Affair and it was lovely! The new a/c unit with temp sensors was perfect and we were very comfortable. The house was very fresh and tidy upon our arrival as well. The trail to the beach is so convenient and everyone really enjoyed the pool. We knew there was no shade so we took a special sun tarp for ourselves. A pergola in the future would add that much more oomph for guests. The house is within easy driving distance for restaurants and mini-golfing, as well as other things. One of our daughters is relocating to a northern State due to a job change for her so getting to spend time with her, her husband and our grandson along with our other daughter and her family was extra special this year. This vacation and time with family was much needed as my father passed away in March of this year. He loved the Outer Banks and would have had a great time. It was definitely a pleasure staying at Family Affair and I'm sure future guests will also enjoy their stay there. ##### Donna H.
