The best area to stay in Rottersdorf is the Old Town (Altstadt), which is the historic heart of the village.

The Old Town is characterised by its traditional Bavarian architecture, with timber-framed buildings and cobbled streets. The central square, Marktplatz, is a focal point, featuring the historic Town Hall and the St. Michael's Church. Many of the village's independent shops, bakeries, and traditional taverns are concentrated in this area, particularly along Hauptstrasse. It's very walkable and provides a quintessential Bavarian experience.

Couples will find the Old Town particularly appealing. Its quaint streets, historic buildings, and numerous traditional restaurants create a very romantic setting. Strolling along the River Rotter, which meanders through the edge of the Altstadt, is a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. The proximity to local wine bars and cosy guesthouses makes it an excellent choice for a relaxed getaway.

For families, the area around the Rottersdorf Castle (Schloss Rottersdorf) offers a good balance of historical interest and open spaces. While still close to the Old Town, this area provides more green space for children to play, and some hotels here might offer larger family rooms.

The best time to go to Rottersdorf is during the late spring (May-June) or early autumn (September-October) when the weather is pleasant and the crowds are smaller.

Late spring offers mild temperatures, great for exploring the town and surrounding countryside without the heat of summer. The Bavarian landscape is lush and green, and many local festivals celebrating spring and traditional customs begin to emerge. It's an excellent time for those who enjoy hiking or cycling.

Early autumn provides similarly comfortable weather, accompanied by the stunning colours of the changing foliage. This period also coincides with various harvest festivals, including local wine and beer celebrations, which offer a delightful insight into Bavarian culture.
