Find hotels in Remutaka Hill from CA $72

The best area to stay near Remutaka Hill is in the Wairarapa region, particularly around the towns of Martinborough or Greytown.

Martinborough is the heart of the Wairarapa's wine country. The town itself is small and charming, laid out in a unique Union Jack design around a central square. You'll find numerous wineries within easy cycling or walking distance, many offering cellar door tastings. It's a relaxed place, superb for those looking to unwind and enjoy good food and drink.

Couples often find Martinborough ideal for a romantic getaway. The focus on wine, gourmet dining, and boutique accommodation creates a sophisticated and enjoyable experience. Many vineyards offer accommodation, allowing for a truly immersive stay.

Greytown offers a different but equally appealing experience. It's New Zealand's first planned inland town and boasts a beautifully preserved main street lined with Victorian architecture. Here, you'll discover independent boutiques, antique shops, and excellent cafes and restaurants. It's a quieter option compared to Martinborough but still offers plenty to explore.

For travellers who appreciate history and unique shopping experiences, Greytown is a wonderful choice.

The best time to go to Remutaka Hill is during the summer months, from December to February, when the weather is generally warm and dry.

During this period, the days are long, and the temperatures are pleasant, making it ideal for outdoor activities like cycling the Remutaka Cycle Trail or exploring the various walking tracks. You'll find the views across the Wairarapa region particularly clear, and the chances of encountering strong winds are lower than in other seasons. This is especially good for couples looking for a relaxed scenic drive or an active adventure.

Alternatively, the shoulder seasons of autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November) also offer good conditions. While slightly cooler, these months often have settled weather, fewer crowds, and beautiful seasonal colours, particularly in autumn.
