The Gateway Restaurant & Lodge

The Gateway Restaurant & Lodge

8/10 Good
"Great location but very tiny room and bathroom. No place to put our suitcases. No place to set items or hang them in the bathroom. We really enjoyed the restaurant and the people were nice."

"This is a nice basic property, with a somewhat limited kitchen for non-breakfast items. No AC, but in the evening a cool breeze cools down the room nicely. A room on the parking lot side can be noisy. The staff are excellent and caring, going far beyond expectations! Close to the Stony Creek, which is an excellent place to go exploring. Lots of trails nearby, including ones to the Stony Creek campground. GAs on the property is not exorbitantly priced, a pleasant surprise."

10/10 Excellent
"Recently stayed at this hotel. The hotel itself is 4 miles from the base of Sequoia National Park. It's also conveniently located close to town with different restaurants, shops, etc to enjoy. The establishment had lots of perks (free laundry, game room, nice deck to sit out and lots of outdoor seating, as well as a trail along the water.) The rooms were clean and comfortable. The front desk staff were helpful from start to finish and were good at accommodating to two separate changes I needed to make to my stay. Parking onsite is free. The only cons were the bathrooms were small and the water pressure in the facility was not good. Price was pretty comparable to what I saw in the area. If I was in the area, I would come back for the customer service alone."

10/10 Excellent
"Our stay at Ponderosa Cabin was perfect! Quiet, peaceful, and cozy....exactly what we needed after spending long days in Kings Canyon. Location is great, too, with the park entrance being close by. Our host provided excellent communication and instructions, which was so appreciated. Wish we could have stayed longer!"

10/10 Excellent
"Two thumbs up and 5 stars! This house is one of the closest to the entrance to both Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. Perfect spot to stay for visiting both Parks.Hosts were friendly, helpful and responded to inquiries promptly.Besides the National Parks, the 10 acre property is a destination by itself. We had fun walking through the apple orchard and down to the pond. There is a friendly goat on the premises (highlight for the kids). As described, we witnessed one of the best sunsets I've ever seen in my life, and the stargazing was phenomenal. Saw quite a few satellites. The house was clean and comfortable, and had everything we needed to cook, but is also walking distance to the Pinehurst Lodge; (pretty much the only restaurant/bar in the area without quite a drive).Hosts said they can cater to large groups, and we can return with extended family. Bring your tents and overflow onto the 10 acres. We will be returning in the future.Too much stuff to fit in a review. Great place. Check it out."

10/10 Excellent
"Comfortable, cozy authentic historical cabin near Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Feels like home away from home. The lighting is very relaxing, chandeliers, sconces. The bed is very comfortable. The deck is lovely to eat at and the grill is fantastic. We saw a shooting star. The road we took to get there was a mountain pass and such a lovely drive. It’s very convenient and provides a wonderful home base. Original claw foot bathtub, farm sink, and shutters over old fashion hopper and awning windows add to the vibe. Decor is adorable and cozy, creating comfort and atmosphere. It’s part hunting lodge decor with furs, antlers, etc. It’s thoughtful and considered. There was a lovely gift/beverage in the kitchen. Do pack the food you need, because the nearest store in well into the park. Pack a cooler and things like olive oil, creamer, ketchup, garlic and anything you need. The lodge across the street is good, but it was slow and under-prepared the night we were there. Although the tacos and Western burger were good. Also the prices online are not updated. Great for beer. We were a bit anxious as someone had left the tv on and something creepy was on tv, the driveway has an extreme angle for a sedan so I recommend driving in at an angle to avoid scrapping the bottom of your car. We stumbled with the lock system a bit. But all in all it was fantastic! So grateful for this rare gem!"
